Default Traditional Shaving and International Travel

I will be traveling to India, and I use a double edge safety razor to shave. Has anybody traveled internationally with their shave gear? More than anything, I'm concerned with having a double edge razor blade in my luggage.

Just don't bring it with your cabin luggage and place it in the check in luggage

Carry on bad, checked luggage is just fine. I put everything I use in my dopp kit and put it in my suit case... No worries about seizures, containers that exceed 100ml, etc. Just safer for your gear!

No need to worry. You can have a hunting knife in your checked in baggage.

Not when you are going on a cruise sadly.
My Leatherman tool was confiscated and kept in the ship's locker till we got back to Melbourne after 2 weeks cruising around New Zealand.

Fascinating - hadn't thought about that.

I wonder what they'd do to a straight razor on a cruise?
Though they should confiscate shavettes with the half DE blade in it - simply for the damage they do to one's self in a rocky boat.

For flight you'll be fine. Just place it in your check-in luggage. For cabin almost anything can be deemed no-go these days it seems. I've seen security guards confiscating tactical pens, tooth paste and very small pen knifes among other sundry items. Sad times if you ask me

When at home I DE shave exclusively, but when I'm traveling I just bring along a cartridge razor or just buy one at my destination for my peace of mind. It's probably safe to bring one in your checked in bag, without a blade but some DE razors can be expensive so I just know I'll worry. I do bring along an inexpensive stick of shaving soap and brush.

A reminder that this thread is about traditional shaving and travel... NOT about pens.

This assumption is incorrect... The TSA does not follow your logic. I almost lost a mint 1920 Bulldog that I bought in Cali and tried to bring on in my carry on. After a longish discussion I was able to give it to a friend who mailed to me. The agent's opinion was "It's a razor" and couldn't go in the cabin. I capitulated that it was but that I had no DE blades and therefore was harmless. The response was "It's a razor". It all goes in carry on now as I tend to travel with VERY old and semi HTF "blade holders"...

Thanks just wanted to follow up after my trip to India. I just had my shaving gear in my checked luggage, and everything was fine. Thanks for helping ease my mind before not only my first international trip but also my first plane ride!
