    3. Egoiste
    4. Aramis Etruscan (Tuscany)
    5. Bugatti
    6. Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme
    7. Monsieur de Givenchy
    April smelling notes:

    (1) Bugatti, (2) Habit Rouge edc, and (3) Aramis Etruscan had big months, and will be back in rotation soon.

    (4) Egoiste was great as always.

    (5) Monsieur de Givenchy was so light and polite. It never lasted long.

    (6) Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme had good moments, but I'm probably not going to replace the 50-ml bottle when it's finished.

    (7) L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme edt was relegated to the samples. It's ok, but not quite worthy of routine wearings.

I really enjoyed my April rotation. Stuck mostly to the fragrances below except I wore What I Did on My Holidays by 4160 Tuesdays 5 times due to a nasty cold as the menthol in it helped my sinuses. Also wore LPRN EDP & the Couture version 4 times each as part of my mini project.

My All Year Rounder perfumes are:
Eau Rose by Diptyque - 4
    L'Instant Magic by Guerlain - 2
    No.19 Poudre by Chanel - 1

    My Autumn Perfume Favourites are:
    Bottega Veneta EDP - 4
Daim Blond by Serge Lutens - 3
Ginger Biscuit by Jo Malone - 7
    Moonlight Patchouli by VC&A - 2
Raw Silk & Red Roses by 4160 Tuesdays - 3

    My April Rotation:

I want to focus on these perfumes in April but there are a few others that I want to see how they perform in April temps. as well.

    Bal d'Afrique by Byredo - 2
Coco Mademoiselle EDP Intense by Chanel - 3
Doe in the Snow by 4160 Tuesdays - 3
    L'Agent by Agent Provocateur - 6
    L'Heure Bleue EDP by Guerlain - 2
Le Petite Robe Noire Black Perfecto EDP by Guerlain - 7
Orris & Sandalwood by Jo Malone - 8
    Stash by SJP - 4
Wood Sage & Sea Salt by Jo Malone - 4

At some stage during April as a mini project, I would like to compare my Le Petite Robe Noire perfumes - EDP, Couture & Black Perfecto EDP.

A day late but here's the 10 I picked out without glasses this morning (just to introduce a little randomness!)

    1. Je Reviens Couture (Worth)
    2. Dzongkha (L'Artisan Parfumeur)
    3. Stash (SJP)
    4. La Chasse aux Papillons (L'Artisan Parfumeur)
    5. Jungle (Kenzo)
    6. Ambergreen (Oliver and Co)
    7. Cavalli (Cavalli) - the old one in the crazy bottle
    8. Fleurs de Sel (Miller Harris)
    9 Cristalle EdT (Chanel)
    10. A Scent (Issey Miyake)

And here they are, all huddled up against the best carrier bag I've gotten in ages (Ortigia - splurged on diffuser for room)

I love Ortigia's tiger packaging. Unfortunately, I just sampled a dozen of their scents and couldn't find a single one I wanted.

Is that the Je Reviens in the skyscraper bottle in back, with the silver cap?

I was in Sicily last week for work and spent a while in their shop, after seeing their diffusers in the bathrooms of swanky hotel hosting conference. Wasn't blown away by the perfumes - except Ambra Negra, which suspended introduced me to during the Great Flex Hunt last year as a possible smell-alike. I got a couple of room diffuser thingies for gifts, and an Ambra Negra one for myself, so I can smell Flex throughout the flat. No sooner had I handed over the cash, than I noticed that BA had 2 for 1 on their room scent diffusers including an Azzuro di Capri one which I quite like the sound of - found the perfume too much but could imagine it being very pleasant in room form - but holding myself back...

btw: Sicily, the food, oh god, the food....

Yup. Not quite the Je Reviens of Temps Perdu which haunts my dreams, but not bad!

Picture is missing the vintage No. 19 which will be produced for celebrations within the next few days!!!!

I liked Ambra best of the lot I sniffed, too. Good room scent, I'd bet.

The Cuir de Russie is nice - lots of aldehydes! I think this Mitsouko is from the 1990's, which is fairly recent, but it still smells nice and oakmossy.

Four Chanels and four Guerlains. The little Guerlain is vintage L'Heure Bleue Parfum. The two big ones in the cases are Chamde and Sous Le Vent.

Bavard, you’ve clearly got a solid all-star lineup going on. You know I won’t say a word about the “little Guerlain vintage L’Heure Bleue Parfum”. *loooooooong, deeeeeeeeeeep sigh*

Do enjoy your vintage Chanel CDR edt. Best birch there was, in my humble opinion. Is it just me, or does the glass feel thin to you when the bottle is in your grip. I found the glass thin. I remember that was my one complaint about the edt.

A fairly recent Mitsouko edt from the 1990s is a great catch. That was the time I discovered it and L’Heure Bleue, and to this day, I still feel the formulas from that era are worth snatching up!

I so love the blue & white enamel case, the basketweave canister, and of course, your little Mitsy edt!

Both of my Mitsouko’s were/are 2005, and I’ve heard there are differences. I know mine were/are from before the great reformulation of 2007, but I’m not sure I’ve smelled the 90’s ones. I’m still storing my remaining Mitsouko bottle, but this trip and your monthly rotation, Bavard, are making me want to pull it into the wardrobe.

Kotori, what I do is pretty much use my Dummies method of avoiding my favorite Guerlains in the dull, matte, bronze packaging. I stopped buying Mitsouko at that point, and I had overwhelmingly negative experiences with L’Heure Bleue from that “era”. Something in the formula made me want to hurl. Some bottles smelled more “affected” than others. The sa at Bergdorf’s Guerlain counter wrinkled her nose with an “ew” and hastily stuffed the stale tester bottle in a drawer, as if made aware of the problem by me. I call it the “Frankenstein’s Toilet” era, a.k.a. Halloween flankers. Mr. G. spoke about the issue at length on his old blog, that Irisene was the culprit.

I need to keep buying more vintages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Cuir de Russie bottle feels sturdy to me, but my heart would stop if I dropped it. It does have a nice leather note, of course, which I understand is largely/partly from birch.

I'm happy enough with this Mitsouko bottle to stop there. I love parfums, but I tend to like edt's even more.

If we get Bois des Iles, we might just get the current edp, to match the 1932 bottle, otherwise, a few older Dior's and Guerlain's are the only things I have my eyes on.

Our collection of women's fragrances may soon surpass our men's collection. It's getting close already.

The Guerlain's are all for me, except Mitsouko, for now. My significant other likes Mitsouko, but otherwise mostly prefers to stick with Dior and Chanel.

Bavard, I buy any and all vintage Mitsouko I can get my greedy, grubby hands on, except maybe the edc, which I sampled. I need a little something something more than an edc.

I can wear the edt & edp forms interchangeably. ALL good! (I found and bought two vintage edts at a nearby mom & pop pharmacy years ago, just sitting on the store shelf, collecting dust, next to bottles of Liz Claiborne Curve, which used to be big around these parts.) I find the edt to be drier, more versatile, and outdoorsy. Veers a touch masculine. Great for warmer months. The edp is more voluptuous and rounded. More of a stewed peach, infused with spices. A proper night out kind of fragrance, for restaurant and the opera. I am so excited about my 2 parfums!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t remember any salt lick from the ambergris, and can’t wait to smell that lit-from-behind ambergris effect from the rosebud flacon. OH MY LAWDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please try and look for a vintage Chanel BDI edt, if you cannot get an extrait. You won’t detect the melancholia post-2000. I know it was much beloved after that, but if you could go ‘90s or earlier......please do it. I promise you won’t be disappointed. BDI was such a textured sandalwood, where you felt the wood with your hand after spraying. I know I am terrible at explaining things. Vintage BDI is like stained glass on a brownstone, if that makes sense. The gingerbread won’t reveal itself regularly, but when it does, you will be happy you bought the vintage.

Ok. I'll go for a vintage edt for Bois des Iles. Cuir de Russie needs a mate.

I’ve been thinking about vintage Bois des Iles, too. Hard to get. But for now I’ve just been casually exploring sandalwoods, as you saw. That Geo F. Trumper was pretty great. But I don’t have any immediacy about it. I also like Cartier L’Heure Promise a lot, which is a very different type of sandalwood.

Pamplelune lasts hours. Not always as grapefruit though. By the end, it’s more of an animalic patchouli. In the really high southern heat, I’ll get two hours of actual scent time, which is double almost all other citruses. But most of the year it lasts at least the whole work day. It’s the best grapefruit by a long shot, IMO, but I haven’t tried everything. Better than Pamplemousse Rose, Pomelo Paradis, Zeste whatever from Creed, the Jo Malone, and Dior Homme Cologne (though that last one is quite effervescent). And I know you’re a cat person, so I doubt you’d be put off by the comparisons to cat odour from people who dislike it. Like most grapefruits, it can get rather urinous depending on your skin chemistry. I also like Un Jardin Sur Le Nil for grapefruit, but it’s just as much about mango and water plants as it is about grapefruit. UJSLN is not discouraged by Southern heat, btw; if anything, it’s amplified. Keep us posted on your grapefruit sniff notes.
My only regrets in life are the people I haven't stood up for,
and the perfumes I've thrown away.
