    Default Date Night Tests - Round 3.

    This is Round 3 in the quest to find my signature date night scent. Here are links to Round 1 and Round 2.

    * Kurkdijon / Oud Extract de Parfum = 8.7. "Reminds me of the ocean."
    * Creed / Aventus = 9.2 "Cowboy and saddles"
    * L'Artisan Parfumeur / Timbuktu = 8.6. "I like it. You smell like a hippy." (This was a compliment.)
    * Amouge / Dia Man = 9.1. "Peppery. I like it. Doesn't smell like anything except sexy man." (Almost the winner!)
    * Tom Ford / Oud Wood = 9.2 "Wool and warm and man."
    *Histoiries de Parfums / 1725 Casanova = 8.5. re High Notes: "I don't love it." re Mid Notes: "I like it. Just not as much as the other one." (Oud Wood) re: Base Notes: "Really good." (I don't like the high notes as much as I initially thought also.)
    *Creed / Royal Oud = 8.4 "Meh"

    Was surprised at how low Royal Oud and 1725 dropped compared to first testing. But have already listed Au Coeur du Desért for sale on ebay based on all of the above testing better than it.

    Bottom line: Tom Ford Oud Wood wins. Aventus and Dia Man were close seconds but with Oud Wood she would pause when she walked near me to inhale deeply followed by a cute purr. This is the desired result so I'm going to roll with it.

    Am very interested in the new Beau Du Jour coming out as well as the Zaharoff which I'm ordering a bottle. Will let you know if I find anything better than Oud Wood. Also have never tried Green Irish Tweed. But will be surprised if Oud Wood isn't my go to for a long time.

    Thanks to all for the help. For next project I'll be searching for best date night scent for her. This project will be more fun. Please check out that thread here if you have any input. Thanks!

    Gotta admit, super happy for you, but I will miss your threads. Your search was an interesting read.

    From a personal viewpoint alone, Oud Wood truly appears like the surprise and perhaps the wildcard solution, getting an unexpectedly good feedback-for some reason, never thought nor expected that this scent, although obviously well crafted and fashionable, can be so well received

    Thanks for posting the results of your tests, that's a good idea!

    I'll have to try it myself one of these days.

    I sprayed on some (probably too much) of my new bottle of Bogart One Man Show this morning before taking my dog on a walk in the Hollywood Hills for its trial run, and found myself having a very long conversation with a very nice pretty lady I bumped into...she didn't mention the scent, but it clearly didn't repel her, so I wonder if it could have helped a bit! But unless you flat-out ask them what they think of your fragrance, you're not always gonna know. Even when they make it clear they like you, American women tend to be a bit shy about dispensing compliments....

    High notes?

    I assume you mean top notes, as in, the opening.

    Oud Wood is a fine choice. It's great when you find something that suits you and that your date enjoys on you. I have a decant & wear it from time to time, but not usually on dates since the feedback I've gotten has been mixed.

    Thanks for the experiments. Never would have thought Oud Wood would generate so much like. I kinda abandoned it when I first got a sample, but have been thinking of revisiting lately, even buying a FB. So, this doesn't help dissuade that. lol

    You like the scent and so did she. That’s great. Our opinions don’t really matter here. But who were you dating? A cat?? Never heard a woman purr before....

    Just catching up on your threads. As a 41-year-old somewhat 'conservativish' guy, I found your comments and results interesting. Thanks for sharing.

    You mentioned Green Irish Tweed... if you do ever start searching again, I do think you'd like that one.

    Enjoy your dates!

    Love Dia Man and have never had the chance to experience Oud Wood. Very surprised that Green Irish Tweed was never a part of three trial runs...seems a rather significant lacuna.

    Yes, Top Notes.

    I am very surprised at the variations in repeated tests. 1725 was my personal favorite initially. But when it was retested this round I didn't like the top notes like I did the first time. What could cause the change? Maybe didn't mix well with different soap? Different detergent? Maybe the different location? Very curious experience for this rookie. Similarly, she said "meh" to Royal Oud this round!

    Anyway, will be curious how long I stick with it. Really fun to learn from you connoisseurs. Great group on this board.

    Anyway, it has been very enjoyable to share the experience with the fine group on this board.

    A few thoughts:

    Your soap won't have any effect unless it's drying your skin out, and that won't change a fragrance's smell. It would just diminish performance. The smell from a soap won't last long enough to matter if it conflicts with a fragrance, especially since you rinse it off anyway.

    In my experience, the weather can play a bigger role than people realize on how a scent smells (or, actually, how you'll perceive the smell). I'm sure somebody will read that and think "Not when you're indoors." That's wrong. There are many ways the environment outside impacts the air inside, and all of that can impact how a fragrance wears, or even how you'll perceive the smell. It works similarly with how foods & drinks taste. Are you a beer drinker? A stout can taste amazing on a cold day but that same beer can seem meh in summer.

    For example, I love Tom Ford Extreme in cold dry weather. If temps are above 60 and it's raining outside, TFE smells annoying to me, but in winter it's one of my all time favorites. Maybe you experienced something like that with 1725. And, hey, it could simply be that your date didn't enjoy it. Just because a fragrance smells great to one person doesn't mean it will to another. Think of it like how different people enjoy different food. I can't stand olives. My friends love 'em. I love ham & pineapple on a pizza! Different people enjoy different things (note to self: order pizza before the 2nd playoff game today!)
