Z11 - A very soft note, I barely detect anything. Tried at 100% and at 10% on a smelling strip. It has an ambery note. Based on a few initial tests, it feels like it might be a good blender. But it does not really contribute to the scent. I would like to hear other peoples opinion on this one.

Cedrone s - Woody cedar, it works well in combination with patchouli

Cedroxide - I am assuming this is the same as Cedroxyde. I like it a lot, a good woody note, works really well with vertrofix and cedramber to form a nice woody background. Adds a pencil shavingish note when used in combination with vetrofix and vetiverol. You get some more info about it on Pell Wall. https://pellwall.com/shop/ingredient...ery/cedroxyde/

Velvetone - Similar to other ionones with slightly different shades. I have not used this much only evaluated it when I got it.

Tobacarol - More woody ambery to my nose than tobacco. But I think it would work well in a tobacco accord. I have not used this much

I do not have the other 2 so I cannot comment on them.

Agree with needaname. I add only ,
-- z11 : difficult to understand, Perhaps, the value is in the function, not in scent..
-- Cedroxide: drydown very very dry-pencil....
---Tobacarol: to my nose, dry wood with a peppery/nutmeg nuance and cigar-box....

None are what I would consider “staples” and, personally, I could happily get by without any of them. I would get small samples if possible rather than buy significant quantities.

If you don’t yet have all, or most, of the more frequently used materials, e.g. those listed in Introduction to Perfumery or Perfumery: Practice & Principles, then I would suggest your money might be better spent there.

I think from your list, by far, my most favorite and most useful is Phenylhexanol, aka Mefrosol. Don't miss that one.

Gamma Hexa is great for a coconut type,

And I like the Cedar items, but have not yet used them too much.

    I have velvetone,
Unless you are making a very delicate, powdery-centric-fragrance....
The other ionones pretty much do the same job.

That said, I like it more than the very woody beta-ionone.
Alpha is sweet, velvetone in the middle, beta is woody.
This is from memory, sorry I`m not that good yet, I might be getting this wrong :-(

Oh, if it means anything to you, I really love genuine Tobacco absolute.
I just can`t imagine replacing it with a synthetic.

i have tobacco absolute and Tobacarol also. Tobcarol it only takes one aspect, the dry one.
But the sweet roundness of the tobacco is missing. For my taste,It is an ingredient to give light nuances in tobacco compositions, but it can not be central...

I don't really know what to do with these two cedar materials. They smell fine and I did try to used them but so far always ended up with using cedar oil. I like Z11 and Tobacarol but again they didn't seem essential in any of my blends. On the other hand, the very moment I got phenylhexanol I made a complete blend around it and tested it by adding it literally to every of my older blends with anything rosy in them. Velvetone was a part of one of my projects but it wasn't hard to replace it by smaller amount of alpha - isomethyl ionone. But it's a really nice component.

about your list, I would also vote for Cedroxide
    Gamma hexalactone
Phenylhexanol the rest, in my opinion, you can skip. Cedrone s has a lot in common with cedar oil but not so many-sided

The only one I have on your list is Tobacarol. It has more of a cigar box odor rather than tobacco, yet with tobacco absolute it makes a good combo. It is a dry note, not overpowering. I’ve used it in a formula when trying to add a hint of cigar/cigar box note.
