Default Chanel PM alternatives for a classic gent scent?

Hi, I'm liking Chanel PM edt (I've never sniffed the EDP so am wary of buying blind).

However, it's reputed poor performance concerns me enough to look a little into possible alternatives for that classic gentleman's scent.
Now I'm not looking at going down the old school 1970's vibe as I find them harsh and a little sour on me.
I like PM because it's not aggressive but still sharp and bright.

What alternatives could I look at?

Are there cheaper but better performing alternatives?

    Terre d'Herems?
    Armai Pour Homme?
    Eau Sauvage?
Cartier Pasha De Cartier? (or the Noir/Noir Sport flankers)
Any others I may need to check out, doesn't have to be niche or even Chanel league as long as it smells great and lasts OK?

Any reasoning behind your suggestions would be appreciated.

    Cheers

This is a bit a difficult problem because the old citrus chypres like Chanel pm were supported by oakmoss, which is now restricted. Eau Sauvage is sharp and bright but suffers the same problem. Terre d'Hermes goes into a different, woody-earthy drydown.

So if you want the brightness of citrus, you should probably just give up and reapply the above (or even something like Chanel eau de cologne, which lasts even less than chanel pm). Alternatively, accept a less sharp drydown (eg Parfums de Nicolai New York intense, which goes more powdery), a sharp, leathery one (like the brutalist Acqua di Parma leather), or a sharp woody ambery one (like Hermes Eau de Citron noir, which I find ok, but many people find too sharp). I have also read good things about Parfums d'Empire Azemour les orangers, but I have not tried it.

EDP is strong I have a 2018 bottle and 3-4 sprays are plenty 3 is enough for me lasts all day and then some takes some scrubbing in the shower to remove the scent. I switched to the EDP with the discontinued USA distribution of the EDT no regrets here imo.

In my opinion none of the ones you suggested are similar to Pour Monsieur. The best thing to do would be to bring a traveling atomizer for re-application during the day. Personally, I would substitute Pour Monsieur with something else.

Just increase the number of sprays you are using to get the desired effect.

Do you find the edp is still similar to the edt but stronger and deeper or is it nothing like the edt in smell?

The opening is not as bright of a lemon as the EDT, it is a more dense fragrance similar but not exactly as the EDT. I prefer the EDP so far, I will have to see how warmer months go with it probably will decrease amount of sprays in the summer.

Have you ever thought of Boucheron pour Homme?

I would try Versace L'Homme (1984) for a similar opening but with more sustain in the base.

    Thanks, it's a tough one isn't it.
I suppose i really need to try it but that's so difficult right now.
Would you say the EDP shares more with the EDT than with the Concentree or the other way around?

Thanks, I did try VLH in a department store a few months back and it was too rich and deep for me I'm afraid, as was the original Givenchy Gentleman.
Too much of a 70's vibe which can be a plus for some but not my cup of tea.
I was expecting it to be a little 'brighter' and citrussy like Chanel, Eau Sauvage etc. but it wasn't like them IMHO.

Yes there's always that I suppose and it's not like I'd be wearing it every day.

Not quite the same scent by any means but I would suggest Moschino Pour Homme. A beautiful classic scent that has an overwhelming positive rating by many who appreciate vintage and classic scents - 100% positive feedback amongst 29 individuals who reviewed it so far. It's also quite affordable. It has oakmoss in addition to leather and styrax and other notes.

Also suggest Armani Eau Pour Homme, Eau Sauvage and YSL Pour Homme.

Not sure if these are cheaper but you can certainly look at online discounters for deals and so on.

Never smelled Concentree but according to YouTube reviewers the EDP is very close to Concentree, yesterday at work 3 sprays of EDP to the shirt lasted 12+ hours with nice projection. I’m very happy with my Pour Monsieur EDP, definitely more dense than EDT and not airy like the EDT has a strong presence I might actually prefer EDP over EDT. I feel like EDP is a more mature version of Pour Monsieur, 4-5 sprays of EDT were needed to get performance I’m getting with 3 sprays of EDP.

Also adding the stronger Eau Sauvage flankers, particularly Extreme and Parfum, Eau de Rochas, YSL pour Homme Concentree, ADP Colonia Assoluta, Capucci pour Homme, Lalique pour Homme EDP
