Default Acqua di Gio Essenza egg smell?

    Hi all

I have read around about AdG Essenza and the consensus seems to be, while a unique and well-crafted fragrance, it is associated by a minority as having an 'egg' smell. Something which I've read may be a chemical turning into a 'sulphur type-smelling' compound after applied. My question is, is the 'egg' smell that some people do detect a result of the fragrance itself or is it a result of the fragrance and one's body chemistry (meaning some may have this issue while others would not depending on their body chemistry).

    Cheers

Although I personally never detected it as an owner, my guess is that those who do, feel it is a result of the fragrance itself.

Sulphurous materials are sometimes used to flesh out fruity accords and make them more natural and realistic, some people might be very sensitive to the particular ones used in Essenza, as it is mainly a problem with this scent.
It could also be, that they for some reason used a bit of natural grapefruit EO, which is usually discouraged and avoided, as it degrades into sulphurous and ill smelling compounds.

So in summary, it is probably more about genetics than “skin chemistry”, or alternatively about certain batches having slightly off amounts of sulphurous trace compounds.

I wouldn’t call it sulphur-like, nor hydrogen sulphate-like (rotten egg). More like the faintly nauseating note of ‘raw egg white’. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who smell it. It’s a dealbreaker.

Even if quite often discussed and mentioned here on BN, never managed to sense any egg note in this one so far.
If anything, though not enough to fully dislike or even to enjoy this fragrance less, can perceive at most a too soapy, almost too "synthetically" fresh, nearly laundry-like note about this very scent, but strongly emphasizing again that this note is nowhere near to even slightly dislike it.

This isn't something everybody smells. I've never detected any kind of egg smell when I've worn it, and I wear it often enough.

BTW, is ADG essenza discontinued? I don't see it in local stores.

It is, it was disco’d in 17 or 18, I believe.

Really?! Had no idea. Thanks to everyone here, answered my concerns to a T. Too bad about it for that minority of people, I hear it's a lovely scent.
