Default Any COLD, creepy, Not-sweet perfume recommendations?

Like a cold hand caught you off guard in a pitch-dark room.

De Profundis sometimes has a bit of sepulchral vibe, but I always get distracted by the sweet powdery notes.

Though I guess a powdery notes can be a bit creepy too, as in Silver Mist.

    Anything else you guys recommended?

M/Mink from Byredo is extremely bizarre and smells like a cold, dusty, creepy attic.

Guerlain Djedi. I haven’t smelled it, but I have smelled Thebes Grade 1 (inspired by Djedi) by Sultan Pasha. Which is a beautiful, but very haunting fragrance. His stuff is out of this world quality. I went through an entire 29 piece sample set from him and not a single bad perfume. All had character and quality and perspective and amazing blending. If you blind buy one of his Attars he sends a tiny sample alongside so you can sample before you crack the seal on the bottle, in case you want to return it.

Histoires de Parfums Petroleum smells like entering a cold, damp cavern. A strange combination of a metallic oud, something acqueous, and a touch of earthy animalic.

Perhaps not as strange, but CDG2 man does give a bit the impression of a cold church.

I only recall that the scent instantly made me picture a dusty attic with a hazy mist in the air and smelled like something a fucking ghost would wear.

As far as Djedi goes (and so Thebes 1 as well), Jacques Guerlain was inspired by the Egyptian Tombs that were being discovered at the time, in the 1920’s. Is that haunting enough for you? Mummified bodies of pharaohs, 2000 year old gifts to the gods, ancient vessels holding fragrant resins and precious artifacts.

Thebes Grade 1! I never tried Djedi either but I have tried Thebes Grade 1. It was almost unsettling it was so haunting and dark. From Sultan Pashas website:

“Thebes is dedicated to a very old, discontinued composition I smelt in Paris at a certain famous establishment. It was so evocative that it was the only time a perfume brought me close to tears. As a result, I toiled for many months and many late nights to recreate it as I wanted it to be my signature perfume. And here it is... Thebes.

This is a sombre, morose scent that makes one silent and ponder on the fragility of life and the certainty of death. It truly reinforces the later making one realise time waits for no one. At first, so colourful and filled with the spark of life, only to end with the scent of dry rot and decay...“

This is the closest, I think. Musty cold stone, with a hint of cool incense from masses long gone. Beware, though: the more recent versions are warmer, spicier, and not at all what you're looking for.

PS Also beware of all the hoo-ha about Djedi, mummies, resins and whatnot. It's a very dry chypre, but nowhere near as creepy as its legend might suggest, in my opinion.

Most of the ghosts I’ve heard of wear violet perfume.

    Yeah

There’s also Myths Man. Lot of Chrysanthemum and some incense as well. People have described it as quite funereal.

Although I bumped into Dracula this past Halloween and he was wearing Salvador Dali Pour Homme, I'm going to recommend Absinthe by Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs. Actually BPAL has many scents that would evoke exactly what's being requested. The caveat is that they are fragrance oils, attars. If nothing else, go to their website and get a chill put down your spine by some of the art and poetry. Also recommend Dorian and Cathedral from them.

I have smelled Djedi, twice. I wouldn't characterize it as 'cold, creepy' but that's me. The vetiver is fantastic in the way it's used, that's what I remember. Sort of like if Guerlain took their masculine Vetiver and made a Parfum/Extrait of it and added leather and powder.

Have you smelled 1805 / Tonnerre by Beaufort London? It's sufficiently creepy.

+1 on Dali PH... Not familiar with the Alchemy Labs offering, but if it’s mentioned in the same breath as Dali PH, it’s gotta be dark!

My recommendation in addition to Dali PH is Parfum D’Habit by MPG... Dank, cold and intriguing... Private Label by Jovoy is also very dark...

Also, +1 on vintage Messe de Minuit by Etro. I actually had it and swapped it because it almost smelled like a basement full of moldy books sprinkled with incense. It was artistic, but I found it to be unwearable. This is one of the rare instances when Ive found that the reformulation was an improvement.
I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.

interesting. While roses, etc. have a gothic image in the west, in Japan Chrysanthemums are heavily associated with the dead.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.
