Default Maison Margiela. I just discovered the Replicla series and think I'm in love!

    Hello all,

I have made several trips to Sephora the past several weeks and had seen these bottles with white labels with the word "Replica" written on them. Without paying attention, I (incorrectly) assumed they were a Sephora house brand or something, and didn't pay them any mind.

Earlier this week I realized that I was wrong, and that it's actually a line from Maison Margiela. I have never heard of this brand before but they were being mentioned in several youtube videos I was watching. By the Fireplace and Jazz Club seemed to be the most two popular in the line.

While at Sephora yesterday, I made a bee line straight to By the Fireplace as the descriptions of it seemed very intriguing. I seriously cannot over state how much my mind was blown! WOW! This is such a wonderful smelling fragrance. To my nose, it smells exactly what the name invokes. Real wood burning and that smoke smell pouring out at you. I thought more campfire than fireplace, but still, I find it to be a very fitting name. Needless to say, I got a sample of it and I cannot wait to give this a full wearing. I generally do a 4 spray test wear with all of my fragrances, to see how they perform. I am really, really hoping that this doesn't let me down.

The next one I smelled was the oft mentioned Jazz Club. While not as bold or unique as By the Fireplace, it too was very impressive and I had to add it to my list of samples.

I also took a sniff of one called Music Festival because I am a music junkie, and it had the least amount in the bottle, leading me to believe it was the most popular in that store anyway. I had to laugh as the drydown on the test strip was happening. I thought it smelled like incense burning that was covering up the smell of (an illegal green substance) smoking in the background. Although I do not partake, I used to go to parties and know what that smells like. To be quite honest, I was really enamored with it as well. Regardless of the imagery it brought to mind.

I stopped there, as I was admittedly becoming quite smitten with the brand on the spot, and didn't want to make an emotional quick purchase of $130 (that quite frankly I don't have to spare at the moment). I was wise and got my two samples to take home. If these are as good as I am thinking they will be, I imagine that all my samples will be from this house for a bit.

Enjoy it! Personally none from that line sparks any interest from me. But I love the feeling of finding something I like.

I have tried quite a few at Nordstrom and came away with good feelings of all.

Jazz Club is a current favorite. Surprisingly complex too. Tobacco and vetiver are now quite distinct in a very pleasing way after quite a few wears. It's definitely a fragrance that goes through a journey, especially on skin.

The price is relatively more reasonable I think! I'm fond of Lazy Sunday Morning--clean linens and a soft rose

At the Barber's is very nice too

I ordered a bottle of At the Barber's after only a couple of wears from a decant. It's great.

MisterGrain--it really is! I feel like a new person when I put on At the Barber's after a shower. I usually really like lavender and basil notes so it was an easy decision

Two weeks ago, I discovered Jazz Club while staying at the St. Jane Hotel in Chicago (which I highly recommend, BTW). They used it as the scent of their hotel toiletries, and I loved it so much that I ran to the nearby Nordstrom and got a bottle. Haven’t smelled a woody oriental like this, designer or niche, ever.

I will add that around here, the Replica line is best known for their sneakers with a cult following. (Oddly enough, the perfumes are not distributed here, but the kicks are.)
It's really quite pleasant, except for the smell (...)

Nice house. Thanks to Sephora, I was fortunate enough to sample most of them.

I'm happy to see this house get some love. I haven't tried anything on skin yet, but it is brutally cold here in Iowa right now, so I am holding off a bit to try these when it's above 32 degrees vs in the single digits with high winds and random snowstorms. LOL!

I don't work outside, but I don't want the extreme temperature fluctuations to destroy these wonderful smells before I have a chance to give them a fair shot. Perhaps I am too worried about such things, but I REALLY, REALLY like the way these smell and I don't want to wear them in weather that could possible destroy their performance. I hope that makes sense.

I have to agree! Jazz Club is very good and works well with my skin. The longevity is very good on my skin, longer if I spray it on my cloth. It seems like when people review Maison Margiela's "winter" scents, most go for By the Fireplace, but for me, the smoke is too much and Jazz club smells better between the two.

When I first saw the line at the stores, I didn't give it much thought because I literally thought it was a replica line, or other fragrances, not realizing replica means situations. I will need to explore this house more!

    This was my thoughts exactly!

Great to hear that Jazz Club performs well. I am hoping to test my sample soon.

Featured this house in a trio of splits recently and it was quite well received by all who participated. For what you pay and what you get they are good fragrances but not one of them wow'd me in any way.

Put it this way, if fragrances were cars this range would be Saab.
