I've been comparing all my iris scents today. I was concerned that I would miss the beautiful iris note in Shalimar Parfum Initial L'eau this year but although, I don't have another iris similar to SPIL, I do have a wide variety of iris note scents so I don't think it will leave a gap in my perfume wardrobe.

    Have a good day!

Sea Roses: Another glimpse of coins that I've inherited - I don't collect these in particular but I do like the nice size of these coins. Silver does tend to tarnish which is why I don't focus on these much anymore.

    Hello everyone!

    N.Cal
, these are some nice coins.

I was planning to test Habanita further today, but I woke up and my nose said, no spices and no tobacco today, please! So I'm wearing Néroli & Orchidée by L'Occitane today.

I wish everyone a nice day!

    Morning all!

Shycat, thank goodness you were there to rescue those poor kitties! Are you going to name them? Give them a snuggle from me.

lt's very cold & frosty here, but thankfully not as cold as parts of the US right now. Stay safe & warm, all of you in the deep freeze!

l'm wearing Shalimar to do some cleaning today.

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

Hello and best to everyone. CuddleCat - whenever the subject of iris perfumes comes up, I am compelled to plump for the beautiful Yardley Iris. Do you know it? It’s a virtual dead ringer for Hermès Hiris for a fraction of the price. The lasting power isn’t the greatest but it’s so inexpensive that I don’t mind having to re-spritz.

Shycat, bless you for rescuing those wee kitties. Xo

Hope your little kitties are okay, shycat.

I got up an hour ago. 0 / -18 degrees outside. No wind - yet. This cold reminds me of the winters I experienced as a kid. Temps like this were more frequent, more common. I'd be out rolling around in the snow like an idiot. And, we did NOT have 2 hour delays for school like they do know...

    Hi, everyone!

N.Cal, you are wearing one of my absolute favorites, that I suspect will remain on my Wish List forever, unless I win the lottery. Come sit next to me so I can live vicariously, will you?

CuddleCat, Terry, et. al., enjoy your Iris-fest (I'm not familiar with the Yardley, but I do have Hermes Hiris, and despite some trash-talk of that fragrance in some circles, I happen to love it - though I got it on deep sale, so am biased. And Shycat, well done on the kitties! I am allergic to cats, but love them. I hope all goes well on that front!

Also, congrats on your 9K milestone,Terry!!

Today is day 2 for me in Byredo Gypsy Water.

I like it a lot, especially in the ultra-frigid temperatures we've been having here in Boston (It's... f'ing freezing in Boston). Though I do find it weird that opopanax isn't listed among its notes though "incense" is, so maybe that's their description of choice), as it feels like a big ol' opopanax bomb to me - which I happen to love! Ah, well, Maybe my nose is still being cranky.

Gypsy Water fragrance notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Pepper, Juniper Berries, Incense, Pine Needles, Orris, Amber, Vanilla, Sandalwood.

    Temperate (temperatures) Thursday to all!
It’s thought that people who hope too much will just waste their life away and never get down to doing any real work. They’re confusing Hope with Wish, its lazy cousin... Good morning! Polar Vortex is somewhat improved here; the "feels like" temp is up to a whopping -29 (real temp -14). Woo-hoo. I hear ya about the old days, HOP!

Shycat, you're a great mama. Those are some very lucky kitties; hope they're doing well today!

Congrats to tdem and N.Cal on your posting milestones!

Seconding the Yardley Iris! I have that one, too and agree Hiris is its closest smell-alike. Really enjoy this one.

Speaking of iris! I'm in one today too; No.19 Poudre.

Real temp -30F in the Twin Cities. My car died at the office yesterday after sitting for 3 hours outside. Jumping it did nothing so some coworkers and I pushed it into the heated garage and hooked it up to a battery charger. Started eventually.

Bottega Veneta for today. It's quite cold by our standards but not like up north.

I still don't understand how that is possible to survive - how do the pipes not freeze and burst? How does machinery work, if it's designed for the regular temperature range If the cold is so cold they have to set the train tracks on fire to keep them from cracking, how do cars not deform or crack? And the utilities asking for people to use less electicity? it's not like you can just turn off the heat and put on a sweater, right?

-30F when I woke up this morning. Not much wind so I'm sure the wind chill was only somewhere around -45F. I didn't have work yesterday, but I do today and people aren't very happy about it. I'm wearing Chanel Antaeus and my wife wasn't happy about that choice haha. I got EW what are you wearing today this morning.

    Stay warm and safe everyone.

I used to do the production for Florida Plumbing Perspective magazine, and I had a hard time imagining how you folks in the south did with so little insulation or could position a water heater or washing machine in a garage. It's funny what we come to think is normal. Up here, homes are super insulated and plumbing should be located away from outside walls as much as possible. Otherwise, they can be wrapped in what's called heat tape, which conduct a small amount of electric heat around them. Those who don't obey these rules do have pipes burst. Almost no one heats with electricity exclusively, it's either natural gas or oil heat. We're not hooked up to a public utility gas line, so we have one of those "submarine" propane tanks in the yard, although that's just for the bathroom heater as we've heated the rest of the house with the potbellied stove exclusively since we moved in almost 20 years ago. The oil viscosity for northern vehicles is selected based on our climate. I also used to work for Passenger Train Journal magazine, so I know a smidge about rails. Some are continuous-laid ribbons, but most are still sections that meet each other, which allows for contraction and expansion. The rails that defy my faith are the ones through Lake Pontchartrain by New Orleans which wobble through marshy terrain on a narrow bed of ballast. Looking out the window, you'd swear the train was running inches above water.

You'd think spicy, rich fragrances would appeal more in the cold, but I'm still attracted to sweet. So, Hanae Mori it is for today.

N.CAL, your post reminded me of the old coins fashioned into jewelry by my dad's family. The oldest seem to date to the 1830s. Also seen is my dad's photo on hat pins (1896) and his Army dog tag from WWI.
