Default Royall Lyme vs. Geo F. Trumper Extract of West Indian Limes for best old-school lime cologne splash?

Which one is better, Royall Lyme or Geo F. Trumper Extract of West Indian Limes, for the best old-school lime cologne splash?

I already own Taylor of Old Bond Street Victorian Limes btw and like it. Looking for something else. And I do not want a sweet or candy lime scent.

    Any ideas?

GFT Limes is the best traditional lime fragrance bar none. BUT, longevity is awful...maybe 30 minutes on me. That said those 30 mins are pure bliss!!!

that's traditional with this sort of fragrance, isn't it? They don't last more than 30 minutes...

Love and have had them both. Royall lasts a bit longer but both are great examples of a classic lime scent.

I don't know if West Indian Lime from Crabtree & Evelyn is still in production, (if so hopefully not reformulated). It is wonderful and very highly rated on the fragrantica website.
I got through several bottles of it !

I have never tried the Trumper's, but I do have the Royall Lyme and it's just ok to me. My favorite Royall fragrance is their Royall Muske. It's the best barbershop scent I've ever tried.

My favorite lime scent is the vintage Crabtree & Evelyn's Extract of West Indian and Sicilian Limes. I think C&E still makes a lime fragrance, but it's not the same as their initial lime fragrance. Rumor has it that it's one of Prince Charles' favorites.

I have purchased several bottles of it off eBay, and even after all these years, they are still great. I was initially reluctant to buy them because I thought they might have degraded (being a primary citrus fragrance), but they have all been fine.

They still appear from time to time on eBay and I highly recommend it if you find one and love this type of fragrance. Like all lime and primary citrus scents, the longevity is limited, but it smells so good, you learn to put up with it. Actually, it's not that bad when you also spray some on your shirt.

Another good entry in this genre is St. Johns West Indian Lime Cologne. My father used to wear it, and I would "borrow" a couple spritzes now and then.

I've had Royqall, St. john and Trumper and the latter is IMO by far the best - zestier, jucier, and less candied than the others. The Victorian Gentleman's body splash...

The Trumper version is great, as is the Truefitt and Hill version of WIL. Both get top marks overall from me but as others have said longevity is an issue with both of these.

I'd give an 'honourable mention' to C&E's WIL scent. It's not as natural smelling as the above but it is long lasting.

I have only tried the Truefitt and Hill and the Royall Lyme.
I used to have a bottle of the Royall. Both are good but quite weak. They stay on a couple of hours though but they are basically skin scents after the first half hour or less.

Personally, I did not find them
sweet and I can't stand sweet fragrances.

It makes them so much more refreshing than most sandalwood-prominent scents and like I mentioned earlier there is something edible about the lime note (or drinkable) that I find appealing - without smelling like a flavor of gum or candy. Summer 2018 will always be memory-scent-intertwined with the smell of this scent. The scent isn't sweet at all. Instead it's tart and then dry and woody. I also like the fact that the Mysore sandalwood isn't bolstered by too many aroma chemicals that make it radiant. Instead it wears very close to the skin - naturally. I appreciate that, but I suppose that perhaps if you applied too little of this fragrance or you came to it expecting something that leaps off of the skin with creamy, lactic sandalwood notes this scent isn't that. I used to compare the precursor to this scent (Limed) a Middle Eastern attar version of a lime scent. Whereas Mysore Lime reminds me of the kind of woody scent that I've always wanted Penhaligon's (or Floris for that matter) to release. Something almost dandy-esque. Bracing. Gentlemanly. But also made of carefully selected materials.

I own Limed, Madhats first lime/sandalwood creation. Mysore Lime shares the same notes but it's very different.

The top notes of ML are much juicier and tart - almost piercing and saliva-inducing. They smell quite culinary. And there is less of a tropical/creamy vibe to ML than the previous one (I smell a bit of coconut in Limed). Nonetheless I have made a handful of people smell it when I wore it and all of them loved it.

I am considering buying a backup bottle.

T&H WIL has better longevity and a nice spiced edge to it that beats out Trumper Lime which I would rate at #2. WIL lasts most of a work day, Trumper perhaps a few hours. My stock of each is pushing 15 years old so reformulations may be in play for those experiencing less longevity. T&H really dropped the ball when they reformulated their Spanish Leather...
