Question BEST OF: Hermes Jardin line

With Un Jardin Sur La Lagune coming out this year and spring fast approaching, which installment in the Jardin line is your favorite? I've only had the chance to try Un Jardin Sur Le Nil and Un Jardin En Mediteranee, with Un Jardin Sur Le Nil slightly edging out En Mediteranee.

I think I'm going to be in the minority here.

I don't like this range very much -- I find them [counter intuitively] quite chemical

I have voted for Monsieur Li which I actually purchased

My favorite of the ones I own is Sur Le Nil, I don't really wear any of them that often, although my wife does.

Don't have the new one yet but do have all the others which I like. My preferred is Sur Le Nil.

I don't think you'll be too lonely in that opinion, Kaern. I believe I bought them under the influence of Chandler Burr's book, and no longer own any of them. Le Nil was the only one with any real character, IMO.

Didn't know about the new Lagune. Might be interesting to see what Nagel does with the line, after Ellena. Maybe "lagoon" implies she'll add some of her signature rotting vegetation; that could perk things up a bit.

Hermes is probably my favorite mainstream house, but I just don't understand why they, like all other houses now, feel compelled to constantly crank out so many new products all the time. How can that do anything but lower the standards of quality? Both the Jardin and Hermessence lines contan so much dreck. What was wrong with just putting out one or two new scents every couple of years, and really focussing on the quality?

Nagel has only been in place at Hermes for what, less than 3 years now? And she's already pumped out 11 fragrances. Jeez, it took over 40 years for Hermes to produce their first 15 fragrances.

Just hope I don't see a waterfall in any advertising for it

Sur Le Toit has my vote. It's perfect on a summer day in my grubby little Mid-Atlantic town, when the dumpsters are getting stinky and the homeless people are leaving BO sillage in their wake. Then, it smells exactly like an urban garden.

l haven't tried Monsieur Li, & l wasn't overly taken with the other four releases so far, but l gave Sur le Nil three stars, the others only two.

Sur le Nil is lovely but lasts about an hour on me.

So it’s always Un Jardin en Mediteranee for me. When they launched it in France it came with a beautiful little book about the composition of the fragrance. Don’t know if this happened elsewhere.

Definitely Un Jardin sur le Nil. It was, one of the main reasons I joined BN, after discovering Basenotes on a Google search.

From this list, Sur Le Nil, although Sur Le Toit and De Monsieur Li are, at least from a personal viewpoint, more than respectable second options

Sur le Nil is the default choice. Many people have only tried that one. This is the first I've heard of sur la Lagune!
    For me:

    1. apre le Mousson
    2. en Mediteranee

    3. sur le Nil
    4. sur le Toit

    5. Monsieur Li

Another chiming in for Sur Le Nil. And I get about 6 hours performance out of it, which drives my wife nuts cause she only gets 2.

i think people wrote this off too quickly as a watery, insubstantial jasmine and citrus. Personally I found the kumquat in particular takes this down and interesting path with notes of hot rubber and gasoline, which makes it quite leathery in a similar vein as Bulgari Black. Maybe it’s just me

Sur le Nil is still my favorite.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

Bought the new Lagune immediately as I tried it. The best Nagel creation for Hermes. Here, she removed the dirty musks, and the fragrance is done in minimalistic Ellena style. A classy citrusy (orange blossom/grapefruit) white floral, a bit reminds me of Jo Malone Orange Blossom with a modern salty touch. In fact, if m-r Ellena were the perfumer behind the Lagune, it would smell like this.

I hope the fragrance will be successful; this Ellena-styled Hermes has to go on.
