Default Your Fragrance Discovery of The Year

For me there are two that really stand head and shoulders above all others I have tried over the last 12 months

    Mousse Illuminee by Rogue Perfumery
A non-IFRA compliant green mossy masterpiece by Manuel.

    and

    Incident Diplomatique
    by Jovoy
A showcase of dark earthy vetivers with a resinous chocolate undertone.

Excellent compositions, top to base, masterfully executed.

    Please share yours.

For me - any from the Le Monarque house would qualify.

For me, considering last year was my first year truly dedicated to exploring all facets of fragrances, all were 'new' and discoveries in their own right!

But for some reason LAVS by Unum just speaks to my soul and I can't get enough of it... It's full of dark, spicy, incensey, and green goodness that provokes a sense of calm and introspect. I enjoy it quite a bit, my wife on the other hand, not so much... Hahaa!!

For the most part however, all fragrances listed with 4+ stars in my wardrobe are all discoveries of the year for me and I enjoy them immensely.

Heritage was a big discovery in the past 12 months for me. I would also say Cedrat Boise (after hearing a lot of negative reviews, I was quite surprised how good it is), Lyric Man, Darley, and White Suede. The last two were surprises.

Les Exclusifs de Chanel, Eau de Cologne

    ...terrible name.
    ...fantastic fragrance.

It's a terrible name because all you have to do is say Sycomore and people know which scent you mean. If you say Coromandel, we all know. Ah, Coromandel. But "Eau De Cologne" tells us nothing. It's a bad name... but, oh, what an excellent scent!

Not only was this one my best fragrance discovery over the past 12 months, it was the only bottle I bought since fall, 2017.

I have purchased plenty so far this year, but all of them were on my "To Buy" list for some time. I have only discovered one new thing so far in 2019 that really got me -

    Guerlain - Neroli Outrenoir

I bought a sample - I think I will need to make it a bottle soon.
    Current Summer Favorites:

    1. Xerjoff - Nio
    2. Tom Ford - Rive d’Ambre
    3. Dior - Homme Cologne 2013
    4. The Different Company - De Bachmakov
    5. Armani - Code Sport Athlete
    6. Montale - Aoud Legacy
    7. Dior - Homme Sport 2008
    8. by Kilian - Straight to Heaven
    9. Ermenegildo Zegna - Sicilian Mandarin
    10. Creed - Pure White Cologne

Russian Musk. Without a doubt the most interesting and enjoyable fragrance I’ve smelled all year.

And Bleu de Chanel Parfum: It’s an excellent take on Bleu, and wears almost perfectly.

UNUM - Io Non Ho Mani! Such a great scent, and very reasonably priced, especially for an extrait.

Amouage was a wonderful discovery for me late in the year. I fell especially hard for Memoir Woman and Lyric Woman.

Hands down and by far my favorite Eau de Cologne, it hits the EdC sweet spot exactly. I finished a sample and since then no other will do. Only reason I don't own it is the price, but since the collection is locked I'll treat myself in April.

As for 2018 there's a few but one of the stand out is Iquitos for sure

You can sometimes find bargains on ebay. I bought a 2.5 oz bottle that was around 2/3 full for $80 when ebay was running one of their 15% off deals... so... $68 shipped for at least 50ml. Not bad!

Not just one or a few specific fragrance, was actually lucky to discover not one but two great houses last year- Lalique, liking all the masculine scents by these house tested so far, including their performance for a very affordable price and Le Couvent des Minimes, providing some of the better incense scents in their price category, particularly their 2018 EDP new releases
