    Default Question For Chest Sprayers

When you guys spray your chest how often do you get whiffs after the 30 minute mark? I realize the first 30 minutes you'll smell it the strongest and get constant whiffs. But after the top notes are gone do you get whiffs constantly for the next 1-2 hours? Or maybe a random whiff a couple times over a 1-2 hour period? I understand, it depends on the fragrance. However, I'm talking about with the average designer like with Sauvage, Bleu, DHI, etc.

I'm curious because when I spray my chest 4-6 times I rarely get whiffs after the 30 minute mark unless I physically pull on my shirt to generate forced projection within my personal space. Having that said, I should clarify, I wear fragrances primarily for self enjoyment. So I'm not looking to project outside my personal space.

I've read here some guys spray their chest heavy to get all day longevity while allowing their clothes to trap the scent so it doesn't project too far. Is there truth to this theory? Is chest sprays really the best area for self enjoyment without others smelling your fragrance? As for neck, that's just not an option for me because it causes me olfactory fatigue too quickly.

Enough to remind me what I am wearing and feel good about it.

Random whiffs over the next 2-4 hours depending on fragrance potency/structure. But here’s the thing: half the time I’d be too engrossed in whatever it is I’m working on to even notice them.

I spray both clavicle areas so I don't get nose blind and I will usually get whiffs all day long.

Having a loose neckline helps - if you're wearing a buttoned up shirt that's going to trap perfume sprayed on skin making it less evident to your nostrils.

I tend to spray on my chest and both clavicles (like Macsrul) and usually also give a spray to the hair at the back of my head (moving one's head about results in whiffs). This is usually fine for me to be able to smell the perfume I am wearing for it's life on my skin - some are all dayers, some fade after 4 or 5 hours. And, of course, as Diamondflame says, going about one's daily business can mean you stop registering the fragrance you're wearing, as your mind is focused on other things. Until you are again surprised by a whiff...

It totally depends on what I'm wearing. Some things, Sung Homme specifically, has to be sprayed under a shirt to work for me. Four to the center of the chest holds back monster projection and I smell it for 12 hours. I try to spray my neck though, because I wear shirts at least twice when I can , and change scents each time. Some things like Narciso Rodriguez project very strong and last for a long time regardless of how you apply it, and some it holds projection to a reasonable distance and increases longevity greatly. I would rather have near zero projection and 8 hour longevity than 3 or 4 hours of moderate projection.

I don't spray to chest -- fabric rubbing weakens the fragrance imo

Pretty much depending on the performance of the fragrance, but usually not less long, at least equal if not more than compared to various different application points after the 30 minute mark

Try spraying your fragrance on the the outside of your clothing around the chest area. I do this on occasion, and get good performance this way.

Depends on the clothes and how much I’m moving, etc. , but I’ve probably also developed a habit of tugging on the front of my shirt to get a hit of the good stuff. I’m sure I do it unconsciously and look like a bit of a weirdo
i think I’ve read the act of raising one’s wrist to one’s nose to smell referred to as the Basenotes salute. We need a snappy name for the similar habit of pulling on one’s shirt.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

I actually like spraying to my lower torso/stomach area. We often talk about how neck spraying can cause fatigue, but chest spraying can also do it, as there's not a ton of distance from chest to nose. It may seem paradoxical to spray further from your nose to smell more of your scent, but those wafts you do get are more "meaningful" to your nose.

My standard application to one shot to each wrist and one or two to the mid-lower torso for the most consistent waftability and personal enjoyment.

It depends upon the fragrance. Also, if you can keep your shirt open and spray higher you'll get a stronger experience most of the time. And you can spray on your shirt or spray on a card and place the card in your breast pocket if you have one. Try different things to see what you like best. Spray on your wrists too, for example.

For a while, I sprayed my chest, back of neck, and inside of elbows on each arm. I then discovered the beauty of spraying clothes, so I now do those same four spots, but on top of my clothes, with an additional spray where the cuff metts the sleeve on my shirts. So, at least six sprays of anything I wear. However, I am an admitted over sprayer, so there's that...LOL!
