It hurts me to see treasures disrespected in this fashion, no matter how he acquired them. My stomach knots up a little. Perfume preserves the living essence of a time, an ideal and an ethos. I hope that most of these bottles will end up in good homes someday, and not in a landfill.

Yes back in June of 2013 when I was doing a major home renovation which took about a year and all my fragrances at that time in the existing place, over 1,600, had to be taken out by workers and put on temporary shelving in another room until the renovation was complete. The other reason that prompted me to share them online was because a very rude, nasty, and arrogant Basenoter (now banned for I suppose other reasons) continually doubted the veracity of my collection, and he needed to be put in his place and shamed. The photos of my collection were in the thread below during the Huddler era but unfortunately were lost along with the 276 posts when we switched back to an earlier Basenotes format. The collection has since more than doubled.

In the most loving way I can possibly put it, I think we've found the real-life Batman right here, because you'd need a batcave for that many perfumes!

My answers to your questions: 4,085 bottles currently and growing by the day. They're displayed on tiered marble shelves and mirrored backed walls and stored in one separate section of a very large and spacious hidden basement, temperature, light and humidity controlled walk-in vault that was built at the time of the construction of my Virginia residence and enlarged almost six years ago, not only for the fragrances, but for items many times more valuable than the fragrances, like my wife's art collection, my investment timepieces, precious gem collection, bullion, and other valuable assets that must be protected. Won't take pictures inside the vault for reasons I have already explained in that 2013 thread, but what I might do at some point in the future, if I can get my grandchildren to help me, is remove complete fragrance houses up to the present, one at a time and photograph them. We'll see. As for how many fragrances the gentleman in the video has, I honestly wouldn't be able to hazard a meaningful guess.

I have screened more than half of the video thus far. The more I watch, the more I am convinced these are not his perfumes. He is filming inside someone else's home. I have seen quite a few fragrances that I know are wanted by many people out there; I agree it is a shame that the person is hoarding all of these fragrances. I know I could never use up my collection in a life time, but this person would need several life times to use up this much perfume!

Yes - whoever owns these perfumes has neither a conception of what they are for, nor appreciation of the differences between iterations of particular fragrances. And those stacks upon stacks of empty boxes, which can never be matched to the bottles they housed!

I have to say that I am simultaneously awed and repulsed by this video. Awed in the size of the collection. Repulsed by how so many of them are poorly stored. I am new to fragrances, but seeing this saddens me a bit. Those juices should be getting loved, not tossed around like piles of junk.

I do agree with some assessments that this is probably someone's hoarding gone out of control, or it was inherited and the new owner was simply overwhelmed. I'd like to think the person who put this collection together had done so with admiration for the fragrances.

    +1
But I could think of a number of reasons why hednic might be reluctant to share these photos.

    i) he’d need a video, no, make it a full length feature film to fit them all in, and
ii) stills /pics from such a video could get flagged out as fragrance porn.

Glad I’m not the only one that found it annoying, storing anything in such a fashion just doesn’t sit well with me, I like things neat and accessible.

I have no idea how many he had but I certainly wouldn’t swap my collection for it, not simply due to numbers, I probably have about 1,500 bottles of maybe 700 actual fragrances but lots of backups. I skimmed through his video and didn’t see anything of interest to me, but I’m not into vintage stuff so..

The YT video actually makes it look as if the protagonist/main character and/or his house, the rooms of it "accidentally" fell into or collided with a fragrance truck or any other super-carrier transporting fragrances (and most if not all of the fragrance contents miraculously remained unscathed afterwards)

Not a collection, perhaps not even as intentional as a hoard, just an mindless accumulation, like a pile of trash.

I looked at this video the first time around. It's a useful antidote for any unhealthy desire to acquire perfume without purpose or pleasure.

Disturbing video. What a mess. Rather than a perfume collection or hoarders stash, this is probably the quickly saved and hidden inventory remnants from a deceased or departed owner of a perfume shop(s). Lots of multiples of unopened boxes, older stuff, mostly designer - didn't see anything over the top valuable in there but it would be fun to search through it to see what is there. Saw the top of one large carton that said "Roja" which caught my attention but the YouTuber didn't show the contents of the box.
