Default Any perfumes smell like Derby by Guerlain (2012)?

Possibly my No.1 male leather perfume. My default recommendation to any guy.

But I just realized this perfume is not so accessible. Anything smell close to Derby but easier to get? I used to think Aramis by Aramis has a similar vibe, but I haven't compare them hand by hand.

    Other recommendations?

You can order it from Nieman Marcus. It's in stock: https://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/guerl...0730_cat000308

As hednic was saying, accessible. But very expensive. Can't think of a substitute though.
As you point out, Aramis is, or was, a leather chypre too, but I find it much heavier and muskier than the very elegant Derby. (If any, Aramis's sister Azuree is more citrusy and less musky, but it still feels heavier than Derby). The only other remotely similar things in mainstream are the Hermes leather (Bel Ami and Equipage) whose reformulation status I don't know.

In niche, ELdO Je suis un homme has similarities, but more modern and streamlined, and with incense (and the leather toned down).

I would add Moschino Pour Homme to the list of suggestions. This one has both leather and oakmoss notes. Still quite affordable despite being a vintage scent.

Thanks a lot, I have the bottle, I'm asking for guys overseas who may not have access to Neiman Marcus.

Guess I'll sample more leather chypre to find out any possible candidates.

I think the 70s version of Gucci Pour Homme is similar to Derby.

I have some of the 2012. It goes through rather distinct stages of development. For a while it reminded me of vintage Fendi Uomo.

Very true. You can also try vintage Jacomo de Jacomo.

Not really - Hermes Bel Ami might be worth a a look? More 'leather' (kinda) but not a million miles away from Derby.

And if you can find some original Patou Pour Homme that might also put a smile on your face

Call the Toronto Guerlain Boutique and they'll have stock and most often they charge you nothing for shipping...Derby is available, so don't seek alternates.

I'd check out a few others from Aramis also -- especially at at least a third of the price

Equipage by Hermes is almost the same scent

+1 for Bel Ami and Equipage.

I'm not a layerer, but those two layered would probably smell pretty darn close to Derby. Bel Ami for the leather, Equipage for the spicy florals.

I think the styrax in Bel Ami is too much.

Perhaps the Moschino suggestion instead then. It is a more delicate Bel Ami.

I've never smelled Derby but if we're onto herbal leathers, Bogart Signature is a must-try, as is Cabochard de Grés

    This.

Vintage Derby is tough to find. I own the original eagle bottle, the 2nd and the one I bought around 2009-2011. The last one is still excellent. I'm not sure how today's version compares, but frankly, I would think it's better than scores of other so called fragrances released each day.

If you really want an alternative, then I'd suggest Moschino or Equipage.

    Bel Ami is not close.

Huh! I’m curious what the vintage smells like. To me the modern version is quite nice.

    I don't think there is a substitute.

While I do own & wear Derby, my other leather fragrance is Knize Ten. Smells nothing like Derby but has the same vibe i.e. classic masculine leather scent with a nod to the "barbershop" genre.

Equipage is a nice alternative. I like Derby, but I probably prefer Equipage.

They don't smell so much alike because the clove in Derby is such a loud note to my nose, but aside from that, they're similar. They used to be mossy leather fragrances, now they're fresh, light leathers, surprisingly similar, each of them, to their vintage originals.
