Default Karl Lagerfeld's final Chanel show: 5 March 2019

Yesterday's show of Lagerfeld's last designs for Chanel fairly took my breath away -- and I'm not even someone who cares about runway shows. But all that gorgeous Chanel houndstooth, and the chalet set design they made for the show just gave me goosebumps.

What a fitting tribute to a long and productive creative life.

ETA: video of full show (14 minutes) here:

I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to fashion runway shows, but to show respect to Lagerfeld I checked out the video too. At first, I thought the repeated uses of the colors white, black, and gray was a tad redundant, but the way they played off each other and intersected with his use of the houndstooth left me in awe. Never seen it done in such a unexpectedly refreshing way with those colors.

    Kudos Lagerfeld.

Thank you for sharing that Cook.bot!

The mixture of patterns and textures was Lagerfeld's genius in supporting, enhancing and bringing into the 21st century the Chanel sensibility. Brilliant stuff, IMO.

Would love one of the coats shown at the end of the video.

Thank you for posting and sharing - from the viewpoint of a non expert in fashion alone, can only agree that the combination of patterns and colors is not just amazingly tasteful and brilliantly creative, but also befitting the historical style of consistency in both elegance and of innovative trend setting in timeless haute couture so typical for the house of Chanel

The slouch in the trousers at the very beginning of the show (like in the one Cara wore), well dip me in vinegar and call me a fish supper! It was a good one that show, in fact I think one of his best out of the recent batch

Mica's evening outfit and the cable car bag also had me at hello:

A cable car on a tramway! That's what it was -- I couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be!

Those first two photos, with the patterns reversed on the coats and suits, just knocked me out. So chic.

So chic, and so fresh! (Can you imagine re-inventing something like a tweed suit season after season for decades and still managing to make it look interesting?)

It was an absolutely brilliant show, from every perspective. What a stunning finale to a stellar career.

While browsing on another thread dedicated to perfumes worn by fictional characters and also on sites about vintage/art/cult/non-mainstream films-thus even if more or less off topic-did happen to notice a certain resemblance to much earlier work of Lagerfeld, in the less known assignment of costume designer, the outfits of Marlene Jobert, Michel Piccoli and Anthony Perkins being somehow so eerily similar to a certain in-house style of his:

    the respective film being: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068521/

Wow! Those plaid pants and flamestitch sweater on Perkins are pretty eye-popping! Not to mention the mid-calf pants on his suit in the last photo.

Never heard of that Chabrol movie, and it looks interesting.
