    Default MFK - Amyris Homme

I hardly ever see this one talked about here, though it's probably one of, if not the most mass appealing scent from MFK. I smelled it for the first time the other day at Saks and thought it smelled fantastic. Similar to something, yet unique. I haven't smelled anything like it before, but there was also something familiar about it.

    Thoughts?

I have a 11mL traveler to sample and it's a good one. Looking to get a full bottle or more travelers at a good price. It can be a signature scent.

That's pretty much exactly how it impressed me, but not in a good way. It's not that it smells bad, it's just that it smells like it could be any one of 100 department store fragrances....to me.

So I didn't consider this one from MFK.

I keep going back to my sample of this fragrance, especially when there's talk about it, and it's just not for me. It's too feminine on my skin, I think. Either way, it's not my cup of tea. Glad there is love for this though; I'm a big fan of the house as my Aqua Universalis bottle arrived today.

Amyris Homme is very nice. I have an 11ml travel spray as well. It smells almost exactly like vintage Chanel Allure Homme. The vintage Allure outperforms Amyris Homme, and can be found quite a bit cheaper on eBay though.

I knew that the it doesnt stink like a niche enough replies were coming. Maybe a Forte with oud, civet, or overdose of a note will make it artsier. Nah Ive got enough of those. Amyris has its place.

I own it and like it a lot. Wife loves it on me too. I think it has a passing similarity to something like 1 Million - a similar sweetness to it.

I have a big decant of Amyris as part of the Men's travel/wardrobe set. I like it a lot but don't wear it that often. Next week for sure! Thanks for the inspiration..

I own it and like it very much. I agree it's not very 'niche' in style, but it's wonderfully pleasant and a great everyday driver.

Got a sample because it sounded right up my alley. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. It's somewhat similar to Allure Homme but I actually prefer that one.

I don't think Amyris Homme is one of MFK's better works. The opening has an upscale designer mass appeal sort of vibe in that it smells very common but made with uncommon quality. I mean that in the best possible sense. Mass appeal plus high quality is a big win. The problem for me is the base, which smells more like chemicals than it should at any price point, but especially at this price point. Give me a scent like this with a smooth, natural smelling base and I'd buy it.

The top & heart: So good!
    The base: What went wrong?

I know it'll never happen, but I'd love it if MFK pulled this one from his lineup, reworked the base and then rereleased it.

So would anyone take this over something like, say, Reflection Man? Trying to decide whether it's worth it to pick up a sample and give it a few wearings to see if I actually enjoy it.

I like it better than Reflection Man which was a little too high-pitched for me.

I don't get much of a connection between the two. Amyris is sort of similar to the fresher aspects of Allure Homme, minus the amber/gummy base Chanel uses (which I'm not a fan of. To be fair, I tend to be picky about a scent's base, since that's the part of the scent that lasts the longest when worn).

Reflection is definitely worth a sample. I don't think it shares much in common with Amyris either. Reflection performs better for me, and you can get 100ml for about the same or less than you can get 70ml of Amyris, so there's that if price/value is a factor. Reflection is also a little more unique to me. In spite of the comparisons to LeMale (which I don't see at all) There's not much out there that smells like Reflection. Also, if you want a clone of Amyris Homme at a steep discount, you can just buy a bottle of vintage Allure Homme on eBay for about half the price, and it performs significantly better. (Actually, Amyris is a copy of Allure Homme, since it was released in 2012).

I love it , although at first I thought it was way too sweet.
I see a ton of folks giving it a lot of slack because it’s not unique enough but I don’t pay that much mind at all.
For me it borders on tropical at times but the iris and synthetic oud really help it maintain some wooodiness that grounds it better than say Allure Homme which I think might be the closest comparison ( which is too cloying for me ).

I bought a FB a couple weeks ago and like it more and more. For me, it’s an easy wear that feels sexy without being loud. I don’t really care whether this appears as niche/mainstream - it is a quality fragrance that smells great.

Well said, and I agree. I feel the same way about Amyris Femme. Our dear member jtd expressed these same feelings in his review of one of MFK's fragrances, although I cannot recall which one at the moment. Aside from APLS, if I were asked to categorise MFK's fragrances generally speaking as either niche or designer/mainstream, I would say they feel more designer/mainstream to me, but that is not to say that they seem common.

I have begun to think that the only people who wear fragrances daily are those of us who visits sites such as this one. I have not smelt fragrance on anyone in a very, very long time save one woman at the market. I could not identify which one she was wearing, but it was definitely a B&BW fragrance.

I don't smell perfume on others very often, either. The only time I notice others wearing fragrances is during "special occasions".

Great smell. Kurk does great work. I felt it was a bit too sweet and didn’t purchase. I encourage you to try Gentle Fluitidy Gold which I was blown away by when I smelled for first time yesterday. But this too was too sweet and I didn’t purchase.
