Default Just wondering why the Basenotes clock is 6 minutes fast

The Basenotes clock used to be about 3 minutes fast, but I just noticed it's now about 6 minutes fast.

Grant, any reason for this, and can it be corrected?

It is somewhat irritating. I like to set my clocks all the same.

For some reason this happens every year when the U.S. enters Daylight Savings Time, which happens about 4 weeks before the U.K. does the same.

Watch, when the U.K. jumps ahead an hour, we'll go back to the usual 3-minute deviation.

It's very bad practice for a server to have incorrect time.

It can breaks lots of important things (like authentication) and also system logs become problematic.

An NTP (Network Time Protocol) client is built into every modern operating system, and setting it up properly is trivial, so there is no reason for it to be more than a few dozen milliseconds off perfect.

Did not realize it was that big of a deal, aside from just being annoying.

I wonder if that has anything to do with occasional notifications that this site isn't safe or protected. Hasn't happened in well over a month though.

    Bump

The system clock is still off badly. This is sysadmin 101 and has nefarious side effects.

    websearch: ntp daemon config

for further info. But it needs fixin'.

I assume the server clock isn't set to synch with an atomic reference clock, so it drifts.

On my computer at least, it is actually close (r) to 8 or a little over 7 minutes, but this could almost pass as an average value between 6 and 9
