    Default Floris Suggestions

Interested in exploring the house any suggestions on where to start. I know there are a few similar threads but they have had a few releases since the last one

    I found Santal quite pleasant.

Santal and 1962 are great and have not been destroyed by reformulations, as some of their classics apparently have according to the talk online.
I tried a sample of No. 89 quite recently, one that was supposedly ruined by reformulation, but I still found it pleasant, albeit very classic, harking back to a different age. Still reeked of high quality and lasted a good number of hours with good presence.

The "ruined by reformulation" rhetoric by the usual NIMBY crowd notwithstanding, there is a lot here for classic barbershop fans. I have yet to dive in myself but plan to do just that.

This is a nice deal and a good way to get an easy introduction to several fragrances offered by the house.

    https://www.shoplondons.com/floris-l...t-library.html

I really like the house and have several of their fragrances, including:

Vetiver (this has been discontinued but is excellent and can still be found....possibly right here in the Basenotes Items for Sale forum )
    Santal
    Mahon Leather
    JF
    Jermyn Street
    1962
    1976
    71/72

I'm also anxious to smell one of their new ones called River Dawn, but that one is apparently only available through their London site.

Leather Oud by Floris has an interesting saffron top.
I also vaguely remember Elite is a solid fougere.

I've recently been enjoying Honey Oud. It is really nice in the cold.

I have earlier tried and liked Santal and Cefiro, JF and Mahon Leather is okay, Elite is a bit old school.

If you are not a fan of dusty old school scents I would avoid No 89 and Special No. 127. They are not contemporary.

The two that I would recommend are Honey Oud and 1962. (+1 H_West)

Honey Oud features a very realistic, golden honey accord embellished with light florals over a clean woody-oud base. It's not the same as Montale's Honey Aoud, which is a bit darker (I like this one too). If you enjoy honey, you'll definitely like this...it's Cartier's L'Envol on a low dose of steroids.

1962 is fantastic...if you like traditional gentlemen's fougere's. Citruses, oakmoss, mint, and a very well-done cypress note somehow feel modernized in this nod to a style from another era.

+1 for the above -- I would also add Mahon Leather

Santal is ok but doesn't have much connection to sandalwood imo and is a bit sweet and generic

Can't add much to this, my faves were 89 and Elite, with Santal a dark horse that I enjoyed more and more over the years.

I'm looking forward to trying a few of their newer releases.

Any of the above recommendations particularly long-lasting? I commonly read about longevity issues with Floris as well as Penhaligon's, but I still hold some interest in both brands.

Still have some of my Santal from when it first launched. Still enjoy it. Had Cefiro EDP, which was a bit powdery/barbershop citrus that I liked. JF hits some familiar notes ala GIT without it being too similar. Elite is definitely old-school and I never really warmed up to it. Had the Sandalwood which was stellar. Didn't really care for either Oud offerings; they were pretty disappointing in my opinion in that there are just too many other houses out there that do it better. No. 89 is a classy, classic fragrance worthy of James Bond. I really, really like Jermyn Street for some reason. Summer Limes was quite pleasant and refreshing with a soft, floral note in it.

Honey Oud and 1962 both last a very long time on me. 1962 still smells fairly strong even after a full day of work. And Honey Oud is definitely no slouch either.

I'm not really adding anything new to the discussion but in my wardrobe I have 1962, 1976, 1988 as well as Santal, Leather Oud and Honey Oud while my wife has 1927.

For me, '62 and Honey Oud are the big standouts with '76 being a nice lower-cost option for fans of Aventus. All are high quality juices and are instantly wearable for most occasions. Can't recommend them highly enough.

+1 for 1962. Smells like that perfectly-dressed, dashing gent who just brushed past on his way to a light-hearted but important meeting.

And a special nod to Jermyn Street, which single-handedly, (literally) got me fired up (obsessed?) with men's fragrance in general.

I really enjoy 1962. It smells as though it could be a softer, more polished Italian Cypress.

I received my sample set today and have to confess I was very impressed by both of these. I'm considering getting a bottle of Leather Oud, in fact.

    1962 is very good, too.
