I had to skip the Polo because I'm still recovering from my respiratory infection and it's just too heavy, especially in the sun. Probably shouldn't be wearing anything but I went with a light application of one of my aquatics.

I really hope you get well soon, ZC. I went through this last week. Antibiotics and all. Fortunately my nose wasn’t affected, much. It was purely respiratory. Of course, I wore fragrance all week anyways. I was actually coughing so hard last week that it caused a constant pain in my back. Felt like a rib cracked or out of place. I went in Sunday to an after hours orthopedic, did X-Ray and MRI. The MRI revealed that I had a torn ligament between my ribs. No quick fix, so I’m taking ibuprofen, icing, and have a muscle relaxer for at night. And..... TMI. Point is, I feel for you and really do hope you get well soon.

    Feel better!

I meant to pack a scent for each day of this Sync (and even wear Yatagan on the plane) but I had a 5:00 am pick up and ended up taking only what was in my bag (Icon) but as I am in NY, I may be buying something.....

Wearing Jules today from a dark brown miniature. Love the mossy leather chypre core of the 70/80s! The addition of slightly sour and resinous fir balsam makes it warmer than most leather chypre marketed to women that I've tried. The gently metallic lavender and savoury basil pull it towards the barbershop territory but not quite there yet.

Do you really still have ORIGINAL fragrances from the time of the presentation in 1974 + 1981 >>> Givenchy's Gentleman + Chanel's Antaeus?

Or do you use the terrible versions of today?

    Default 70's and 80's Chronological Sync - 10 Fragrances in 10 Days

Called an audible today. Instead of going with the tried and true Jules, I decided to be adventurous with a first time wearing of another 1980 release... Versailles Pour Homme by Jean Desprez. No final comment as of yet regarding it being a yes or no. The opening has confused my nose so much that I’m still not sure what’s happening in the base. This fragrance has a LOT going on. Dry herbs, spices, and lemon peel, sitting on top an old dusty dried out leather purse? I’m unsure if this is intriguing or not to be bothered with.

I have original versions of Givenchy Gentleman, Yatagan, Antaeus, Versace, Boss, and Fahrenheit.

I have second versions of Paco Rabanne, Polo, Jules, and Bel Ami.

The Bel Ami is in a shaker bottle, but it’s from 2001 and might even be third version.

I like the current version of Antaeus. I think the reformulating has started going better than it was around 2013.

    1980

    Christian Dior Jules

I remember so much talk about the "heat wave" of 1980. This stuff would really radiate in heat.

This is a brilliant fragrance that I've been slow to fully appreciate.

Wearing these in succession like this, it stands out, as did Givenchy Gentleman.

Jules is the one that took my nose virginity by all means, even it was pretty late, it simply did...

Everytime I wear it, I feel that I'm having sex for the first time ! That carnal dirtiness...but in same time clean, mannered and not so easy going.

I recently wore "deep vintage" Yatagan and enjoyed it, unlike with 2011 or later formulations. The earlier one has a kind of transparent musk, which allows the "heavy" notes to come forward without being irritating. In 2011, that musk is gone, and instead I get that irritating celery quality (it's also more of a woody fragrance, which is okay). Overall, 2011 has a note clash that the deep vintage does not.

Wearing Antaeus today. There's that lovely mossy leather chypre undertone too, but much more subdued than in Dior Jules. The main elements in Antaeus is a silky, sandalwood-like milkiness, a leathery nuttiness, and a rose much more spiced up by castoreum and something like patchouli.

and now the one you mentioned in 2013 - the worst thing you do to Antaeus - for my noose!

And the same of Gevenchy's Gentleman of today - a kind of "fragrance rape"!

I forgot to mention that I wore this today. I also have a 1st edition sloped shoulder bottle. Mine is as a gift from my brother. It’s a splash but was exceptionally well kept with no fragrance issues.

It often manages to be my favorite while I'm wearing it. Sometimes, it doesn't stay in balance.

Not a problem. It makes the argument for 1985. The market demand was apparently for some delicious juice.

If only it wasn’t so hard to come by and so expensive. The sellers are holding the market hostage on these unicorns. But the bottles don’t move fast, so I guess they’re ok just sitting on stick for long periods of time.
