Default L'hombre Fauve vs Ambre Precieux

Which would you choose between Ambre Precieux and L'hombre Fauve and why? I've sampled them both and enjoy them almost equally, but can only purchase one right now.

Difficult for me as I own and love both. If forced to pick one I'd go with L'Ombre Fauve by Pierre Guillaume as its performance is for me just a tad better.

Haven’t tried fauve. The ambre is beautiful and I liked it a lot initially but I found it overbearing and got rid of my sample.

If you want a straight amber, then Ambre Precieux is one of the best.

If you want an ambery patchouli, with some animalic musky facets then L'Ombre Fauve is just the ticket.

Both are excellent but Ambre Precieux is one of my all-time favorites and perhaps the best amber on the market. MPG is really neglected lately. They have several offerings that are amazing and among the best perfumes around - Santal Noble, Route du Vetiver, Iris Bleu Gris, Parfum d'Habit. I could go on and on. One of the truly great houses.

I think you nailed it Scarce. L'Ombre Fauve has a rough part about 8 hours in that reminds me of Musc Ravagier which I'm not a huge fan of. Then it morphs into a patch phase that is interesting. 12+ hours and still developing (very nice!).

I think I'm going to go for Ambre Precieux because it's the best ambre I've experienced and satisfying the whole way through.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

Very different: For L'Ombre Fauve imagine an almost animalic amber, with a bit of a funky stank, like wet saliva that's tried, or crusty cat fur that's been cleaned over a medium bodied, slightly resinous amber It gets cozier and warmer as it develops, losing some of that animalic aspect. Ambre Precieux is pure opulence. Aromatic, defined and perfectly balanced spices over an amber that is cloudy, powdery-white but also resinous enough to be interesting, and rich. A bit powdery but also thick. A substantial amber.

I prefer Precieux by a wide margin.

L'Ombre Fauve, chiefly because I find it the more interesting of the two.

Same here. They are very different fragrances, so it seems strange to have to choose between them. Ambre Precieux is undoubtedly one of the best straight-up ambers out there, but it can become rather monotonous after a while, & it lacks projection. L'Ombre Fauve smells like warm animal fur, & is one of my favourite winter comfort scents.
