Agreed. I actually preferred Acqua di Sale to Sel Marin. I'm not a big aquatic fan though, so take that for what it's worth. I do need to try them both again just because...

I'd say grab a bottle of Guy Larouche's Horizon, which isn't selling for much and I doubt was ever reformulated. You never know, you might think it's great, though if you don't have experience with vintage you might think it's too "old school."

One that not many individuals may have heard of is Neil Morris Seaflower.

This one essentially smells like sea breeze and being right by the ocean.

Just throwing out here since it’s on topic: I’m getting a lot of cool briny sea sprays from FO’AH No.11. It’s like riding on a speedboat.

and for something non-aquatic, Sel de Vetiver
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

Kenzo Pour Homme. I don't wear it often but I think it's a decent marine style fragrance.

Looks like I can get that one for a pittance.

This and Ocean Rain both sound like fascinating cheapies.

Ocean Rain For Men was the last scent produced by the legendary parfumier Edmond Roudnitska, and he made it while in his mid 80s. Amazing.

I wouldn’t call it an “all-time great,” nor did I even consider it a marine-type fragrance the first half-dozen times I wore it, but the Hanae Mori H.M. sample I have describes it as oceanic (among other descriptors), and dang-it-all, that’s actually what I smell on first spray now. I still wouldn’t call it marine, but I wouldn’t fault someone if they described it as a sort of dreamy, metaphorical oceanic scent.

I don’t have much experience with oceans, but I never did like the smell of the Great Lakes all that much in the summer. However, if we’re talking that sort of salty-marine vibe, I find Jo Malone’s Wood Sage and Sea Salt quite nice. Otherwise I mostly avoid aquatics.

I gave away my bottle of HM ages ago, so my memory is a bit foggy, but I always thought it did lend itself to beachy-wear even if it was never something I'd describe as aquatic or marine.

Getting expensive in FB! But it's a worthwhile addition to your wardrobe. Good luck in your hunt, (brentsmells on The Crystal Flacon among others sells decants of it reasonably priced).

I still have a bottle of this somewhere. Haven't worn it in ages.

Otherwise I only still own an old bottle of Bulgari Aqua and New West.

+1 to Erolfa and Sel Marin. I would also add Andree Putman L'Orginal and to a lesser extent Pierre Guillaumes cruise collection~ Rivages Noirs (It's supposed to imply having a drink out on the sea and is somewhat like Eight & Bob if you've smelled that)

Another vote for Sel de Vetiver. I definitely wouldn't consider it an aquatic (I wouldn't like it if it were), but it has a salt/warm sand/ocean breeze vibe to it that might be what you're looking for. An amazing scent worth checking out regardless.

I don’t care for aquatics that much...but a very good one is Jardin D’Iris by Pryn. It is an aquatic around the imaginary idea of a temple maybe in Kyoto with a lake and gorgeous flowers all around. It is really quite good. Exceptional really.

I’m not a fan of this genre, but the best I have tried has to be FO’AH 11.
Another good one that I’ve tried that has a beautiful seaweed note is Eris Parfums Belle de Jour, but comes off feminine cause of the florals.
