Strangely or not, at some point was told that there is a fragrance with a "fresh out of the sea" tone among the ones that I owned, but never perceived as a marine scent, namely Chevignon Brand for Men. While personally always rating it as a herbal citrus chypre with a cedar base, closer to an 80s powerhouse covering the same note categories, almost anyone else seemed to perceive seaweed, (sea) salt, wet/damp driftwood, even sand notes from it.

Goldfield and Banks Pacific Rock Moss, for all the hype and then counter-reaction it got, is actually a good aquatic/ marine fragrance. Something of a salty sea air accord with what seems like semi sweet aldehydes that create a perfumey vibe. Definitely worth sampling if you like an aquatic / marine style.

Just bought a sample of Fleurs de Sel on the basis of this thread. Hope it lives up to the promise.

Oh God! I just got back from Spirit Halloween and saw their terrifying "aquarium" exhibit! lol (With dangerous sea creatures that will eat you!)
I don't even want to think about "marine fragrances!" XD

That said, Davidoff Cool Water is pretty nice.

In terms of true marine scents, I'd have to say my personal favourite is Tom Ford's Oud Minerale. The opening is a bit on the harsh side, and although it's still very linear and doesn't really change as a scent or develop, the harshness of what I assume is the oud note becomes a lot easier to wear after about an hour, and it becomes fresh and sort-of pleasant in a way.

Other worthy contenders so far that I've tried:

    - Acqua di Sale - really great realistic floral sea air, maybe ruined a bit by an accord reminiscent of the camphorous smell of Vapo Rub.
    - Sel Marin - wonderful, if a bit soft. Woody greens and browns, seaweedy, salty. Smells like sand dunes.

Some others, like Osaito by Micallef, don't really cut it for me.
Would love to find a true marine around the price of the Bvlgari.

Nautica Pure and Nautica Oceans, for as long as they last. Once in a while that beach/seaweed a/k/a "dead fish" note appeals to me, and Bond Wall Street fits the bill there.

Fleurs de Sel is nice, but not what I'd consider a marine. Likewise, Jo Malone's Sea Salt & Sage doesn't really meet the criteria either.

I'm now pretty content to say that for modern 'marines', Oud Minerale and Sel Marin are the best - Sel Marin from an artistic perspective, Oud Minerale for the wonderful, wearable, fresh and masculine drydown.

Aquatics are a different matter, but for marines, nothing I've tried beats those two. Personal preference is OM as I just feel it suits me perfectly, but I'm keeping Sel Marin in the locker for when I get older. Harder to wear I feel, but gorgeous in its own way.

Arquiste Sydney Rock Pool is a pretty excellent entry in this category, and is probably my favorite of those I've tried (still need to get to Sel Marin).

Falling Into The Sea and Every Storm A Serenade by Imaginary Authors are both top-notch marine scents. I'm not sure if they qualify for "best ever" but they certainly deserve a spot in the conversation.

Having grown up around Sydney harbor and coastline, the name alone conjures very specific memories and locations for me. So much so that the scent could only disappoint me.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
