Question Gucci Pour Homme II ?

Hoping to start a discussion about this one.
I remember trying it when it first came out, but like others I was besotted by the earlier Gucci Pour Homme, heavy hitting 'cedarwood bomb' and of course this was something completely different and I guess the earlier release stole the show.

I'm surprised and confused that Gucci Pour Homme II is fetching such high prices now on the net. I thought it was still in production...or has it now also been discontinued ?

Thanks for any input on this one.

It's still available for under $60 direct from Amazon.

There have been rumblings about its discontinuation for years, but I've yet to see the supply really dry up.

As far as I'm aware, Gucci Pour Homme II is still going on - might be sold at my local Sephora (and stuff?) still.

    Excellent frag.

This. I've seen it at Nordstrom and such as well. It's still around, and I also love it.

Eventually it will follow Gucci PH I steps, but for now it's still available at decent prices online.

Online retailers abroad also seem to have it.

It seems to be easy to find, and the stock seems to look okay for now in places I've been (I travel a good deal and stop in shops to survey what's around). That being said, if they discontinue this, I'll be pissed. First because GpHII is one of my favorites, and second, because I'm still mad at them for discontinuing the first Gucci pour Homme.

Several for sale on eBay, too.

I never understood the big attraction with this one. Against my better judgment, I bought it, basically because of hype here. Wish I hadn't.

I never really enjoyed it that much. It's really strong and I've always felt uncomfortable wearing it. It's kind of an annoying smell, to me.

If I was going to recommend something like it, I'd recommend Hanae Mori's HiM instead. It's MUCH cheaper and doesn't smell so much like "the cologne guy", to me.

You find GPHII *strong*? It's always struck me as a mild fragrance that wears close to the skin. That's one reason I've liked it; it's inoffensive and versatile. A good office scent.

I like Hanae Mori HiM a lot, too, but it's much heavier and punchier, like it took the GPHII DNA and amped it up. It wears like a cold weather fragrance, especially in EDP form.

Oh yes, very much so. It’s one of those fragrances that seems to radiate off of me, forcing everyone within 10 yards of me to smell my fragrance. And it’s especially bad about that in warmer weather. That’s why I’ve often felt uncomfortable wearing it.

I don't think it's particularly worth *hype-ing* in the sense that it's just a very well-built, pleasant fragrance. Nothing about GPHII is going to make folks take a step back and say "whoa!"

That said, I think well-built, balanced fragrances are pretty rare in general, and I think this qualifies. It's an affordable, versatile, wearable fragrance that doesn't put a foot out of place while offering a warm, spiced tea vibe that isn't particularly common.

I haven't noticed it in the UK standard retail line-up for many years now. That said, it's not as if I've been going out of my way to look.

I actually prefer it to GPH, and wrestled for a long time with buying a back-up bottle some years back, but never did.

Edit - actually, I remember I swept up some ancillary products (shower gel and deo) when I stumbled across them a while back because I so surprised to see them - and that was summer 2015. So that's an indication of how long it's been off the retail front-line over here.

oddly enough i get the tea vibe but also a pickle juice vibe, its subtle but enough for me to sell my bottle on ebay years ago.

I see this one at Sephora and Ulta all the time. It's also at Nordstrom too so I think the discontinuation screaming is just BNers with eBay accounts looking to stir (then profit from) a frenzy.

Actually this one is on it's way out. I don't think there is much profit to be made from any frenzy just yet as there are plenty of bottles left in the wild at this point and discounters still have it stocked.

I remember when this was "DISCONTINUED" like 5 years ago. Somehow it's still available at steeply discounted prices.

But retail stores are still getting stock, so either Gucci just has that big a stockpile on it, or it's still being made.

Some poor sod with hitherto undiagnosed dyslexia probably misread ‘DISCOUNTED’ as ‘DISCONTINUED’ and raised the alarm years ago. While I’ve always like the way the bottle looks the juice is a little too sweet for my tastes.

Always loved this for its sweet tea impression. The tea is its mark and beautiful. I have always loved Tea For Two which has the very same impression but is smokier and deeper. GPH II yes, is readily available.

Remaining retail stock is not always a good indicator of discontinuation. It's better to check the online websites of major "anchor store" retailers to see if the item is still in their database, along with checking the websites, US / EU etc., of the manufacturer to find out if they still have it available to purchase. In the end if it appears inconclusive I always contact the manufacturer directly in order to confirm or debunk discontinuation claims.

Heck, there is a store here in CT which still has a few bottles of Luna Rossa Extreme for sale at retail, prices aren't yet to the point where I would purchase them for a flip.

FYI see below chat I had with Gucci this afternoon:

"Hello, Good Afternoon. I have a quick question for you if you don't mind. Has your men's fragrance Gucci Pour Homme II been discontinued?

Hi! This is *******, your Gucci stylist. Thank you for contacting Gucci.com. I am happy to assist you with this today.

We no longer carry this item on Gucci.com or in our boutiques.

I would strongly recommend checking with our authorized retailers for any remaining availability."

Like Gucci Pour Homme 2003, GPH 2 is not polarizing in any way and very versatile. GPH '03 is not a cedar bomb or any kind of bomb, simply an extremely well blended and light incense fragrance with a nice cedar note running through the middle. You can wear them in nearly any situation (GPH'03 perhaps even more so) and they smell very nice. GPH2 will eventually hit high prices because the world seems to just love all things Gucci, and it will likely gain popularity (as supplies dwindle) as being one of the best all-time tea fragrances... not because it is, but because that's what people do.

This is still readily available through many sources. Any high pricing is due to people either just trying to scalp purchasers, or, panned as vintage or 1st edition with the intent to scalp purchasers. No hype need be generated on this one for quite some time. Just enjoy it for what it is... a very pleasant and versatile fragrance that showcases tea as a note.

It's a nice black tea scent, too light but that could be a bonus for some. An attractive violet leaf note, and thankfully the cinnamon is dialed back.

For a black tea scent with more body, there's Philtre Ceylan (apart from black tea, these two are somewhat different).
