So, as vintage hunters / fans / collectors / aficionados - which is the most common word we use? "Batch code" is excluded for 2 reasons, first its 2 words and let's be honest, the heaventus breed owns those 2 words...My favorite is back-up's

    Vintage
    Packaging
    Back-up(s)
    Color
    Splash
    Version
    Animalic
    Oakmoss

    What else did I miss?

ebay (alt. fleabay, if Diddy is speaking or is he a fleecebay guy? anyway eBay et al.)

    I'd also say:

    Modern

As we're often comparing vintage to modern versions. See, I already said 'vintage' and 'version' without trying.

    Good ones.

Also, "formulation/reformulation" and/or "era", as in "reformulation era". Because it often goes beyond vintage and modern - there are commonly 3-4 distinct generations of longtime classics.

    ~~

    Let's see.

I have an oakmossy, animalic version of vintage Kouros: the Sanofi era formulation. It's a backup and came without packaging.

Often I hear "Real" too, used in a semi-condescending context of "if you want the REAL X, you have to find deep vintage/year one blah blah" like any other version after is a clone. XD

Probably "reformulation" and "version" (or a cognate, such as "formula"), because there is such a broad range of distinctions between EDC, EDT, PDT, EDP and extrait, and we need to be clear what we're talking about when it comes to decades-old fragrances.

This might just be me, but I feel like if we did a word count on the "Vintage Scent of the Day" thread, the word with the highest hit-rate would be "Polo".

Another for LiveJazz and “formulation/reformulation”, followed by “era”.

Haha! So true! Fleabay is one I commonly use but I do use fleecebay as well. Sometimes I’ll throw in a ‘the bay’. It’s all contextual:

    - go look on ‘the bay’
    - got mine on ‘fleabay’ or I seen them on ‘fleabay’
    - watch out for ‘fleecebay’ sharks

One I’ve seen a lot on the vintage SOTD thread is “dePapsicant”!

“Deep” and “ruined”. Not always the case, mind you, but we tend to hyperventilate about it sometimes.

E.g.: Deep vintage was fantastic, but it was ruined in later formulations.

A shadow of its former self. A hollow shell. A dim reflection. A crumbed ruin. A withered corpse. A grainy scan. A flickering hologram with no real substance.

Ok, now I’m just having fun!

LiveJazz, I “see” your description all too well in my mind. It is my theory that Chant D’Aromes grew ever more boring as the years plowed on, and to experience excitement, one must sample a specimen belonging to the “deep vintage” family.

I had reformulation on my mind, but forgot to add to the thread, but LiveJazz provided that!

Masterpiece is another we do use as stated by a previous poster.

Dry-down is another we use quite often...

Excellent points, AceyMan and N.CAL Fragrance Reviewer.

Greendot? I didn’t see that on the Raiders site. Does this “greendot” apply to specific houses? This is “new”!
Pre-barcode, I can understand. What is this greendot? If I can dig up an old thread for reference, I’ll drop the matter so as not to waste anyone’s time on newbie vintage questions.
