A wonderful find. Does it smell similar to the original 1988 release?

Fortunately, I've sampled before committing to the 5mL sample. Granted, it's approximately £8.60/mL at retail, though fortunately I didn't pay that much. I'll be buying another 5-10mL shortly and popping it all in a nice atomiser.
It's honeyed goodness, with smoky tea sitting neatly in the background. Not without skank, with some slightly faecal (almost typical of Xerjoff/Kemi skank) accord but sweetened, full and round. It's a difficult one to describe fully but it's intoxicating. It'll be worn by me for me, on occasions where I fancy something special.

The notes seem a bit inviting kind of like Mamluk. Mamluk reminded me of Thierry Mugler Angel and Amen of its gourmand qualities but I still detected a light animalistic oud note in the background. Is the oud note overpowering too you in Ceylon? Have you tried Alexandria II?

Couldn't get it online so had a business associate in Paris pick it for me there and send it to me. When in doubt...

Not sure, but I don't know if the formulation was changed that early. My '96 smells amazing, dare I say better than my '88 bottle.

Just bought the above '93 today, hasn't arrived yet.

I really dig the way Amouage uses mint in this, and there's some really nice body to this. I think this will be a pretty unique warm weather fragrance in my collection, and I'll even look forward to using it on my family's beach vacation later this year!

I know this may not be as exciting to a lot of people because it's not Creed or Xerjoff, etc., but lately I've really been interested in vintage stuff. People might be overlooking the classics that smell amazing!

    Without further ado...

    British Sterling Imperial Musk

Never tried this before that I'm aware of. A while back I threw in a little plastic bottle of British Sterling into an online cart maybe to get free shipping or something. Tried it from that bottle and was quite surprised - this stuff is GOOD. Like, not some cheap smelling garbo - it actually smelled pretty damn good.

So why not look for some vintage stuff of that... plus musk!? Haha

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Early American Old Spice - apparently from the 40's. And if I'm not mistaken, that's a lead top on the bottle - yes, lead.

People are sleeping on this stuff! It's so good, judging by my ~1951-1990 bottle I just received today.

Actually, if my memory serves me well regarding the Intense Homme, this EDP version is softer and more rounded. Longevity is better, projection is low to average.

I've not tried Mamluk, but would be interested to know what the distinction is between them. Either way, Ceylon reminds me nothing of Mugler Angel, so I guess there is some difference between the two. The animalism in Ceylon is certainly notable. It is divisive in my circles - although I don't see it as the oud note being overpowering, as honey is definitely the front-runner.

I have indeed and used to own a full presentation, very fortunately. Unfortunately (sort of), I then tried Alexandria Imperiale, the Fortnum & Mason exclusive, and managed to pick up a bottle at a very good price, which lead to me favouring the latter over the former. Ergo, I sold the Alexandria II given my favour for Imperiale and here we are! The amped-up woody/oudy notes and subdued 'brightness' suit me far more than Alex II, although I think most who enjoy that style of perfumery would be happy with either.
Alexandria Orientale, on the other hand, is relatively different, with focus on apple as one of the main players. It's quite different and very wearable, but I still prefer Imperiale, personally.

Also, have you tried the Serge Lutens before? I was so close to buying it and only got stopped by a blocked card incident (got flagged apparently, haha) the other day! I love vetiver and I've been interested in this particular SL. Is it similar at all to Fat Electrician?

Been eyeing this one more lately, and had been interested for... quite a while. Finally just went for it.

On a related note, just found out FragranceNet just started charging tax for me - so that's great.
