Thread: Penhaligon's!

    Default Penhaligon's!

Just looking at an article from the TV series, "The Crown," and the Queen and the Prince Consort are expecting a baby--and there are some fragrances on the dressing table: some Penhaligon's, to be sure! Scroll down and see for yourself. It's good to see a monarch support the industry of her own country.

"That lover which is like fragrance
Whose voice is as beautiful as Urdu.

She who hides in the flowers
you can only find her from her fragrance."

"Chaiyya Chaiyya," from the film, "Dil Se."

Penhaligon's always carried the royal warrants. They had one from Charlie too.

It was said the Queen wore Bluebell.

Probably more a case of Penhaligon's paying the producers more to be featured in the film!

    You're so damned right, Prof.!

A "tsunami" of overpriced Portrait line fragrances!

And the completion of handmade perfume boxes at Blenheim Bouquet, Hammam's bouquet and many more of former Penhaligon's traditional fragrances!

@donna255 >>>> well, only the Queen consort Prince Philip - The Duke of Edinburgh - has given Penhaligon's the Royal Warrant predicate in the late 1950s.
And this long years with his single crest of Penhaligon's flacons and boxes. See below:

It was the Toilet Water "Night Scented Stock" - favorite fragrance on that time of Prince Philip - and by the way, a unisex fragrance.

When the PRINCE of Wales - Prince Charles - was granted permission to award Royal Warrant titles at the beginning of the 1980s, two coats of arms
    were featured on Penhaligon's products.

Incidentally, Princess Diana was NEVER a Royal Warrant Founder (wrong information one Fragrantica.com!)

And the Queen has awarded only Floris - the other London perfume tradition house - the Royal Warrant title.

Queen Mum was once a Royal Warrant founder of other British companies – never on Penhaligon's. But two years after their death, all these purveyors go out of predicates.

Likewise : eking out vintage Hammam Bouquet and Esprit de Lavande.... but wearing the more recent, and discontinued, Elixir and Ostara. Have used up my vintage BB, Castile, Eau Sans Pareil, and others - and I'm glad - those citrus topnotes don't stay fresh forever.

I'll answer, since rum asked a reasonable question, this being a fragrance site and all. Yes, Castile is still in production.

I saw that scene as well from the show. There was another scene that showed the Penhaligon bottles and a few other ones as well.

I'm looking forward to Season 3.

Duke of Wales? Ermm actually old chap, he’s the Prince of Wales. No knighthood for you.

I’ve found one or two of their fragrances to my liking.

The only two that I would buy full bottle for myself, but in absolute no hurry, would be Luna and Bewitching Yasmin. I cannot justify the price point for both and honestly looking or similar perfumes. Although I might go for a scented lotion of Luna, but in no way is it worth $270!

And here 2nd version of "Night Scented Stock"; as part of the finished Anthology Collection.

Now with the two Royal Warrant emblems of Prince Philip and Prince Charles.

But now in the category Eau de Toilette.

Yeah, especially with the totally overpriced Portraits Line!

But such price specifications do not come from Penhaligon's, but are pressed by the Spanish owner PUIG.

Finally, PUIG wants to compensate for the high purchase price for Penhaligon's + L'Artisan Perfumer.

I remember wandering into the Penhaligon store in Glasgow last century(now sadly gone), it had the two royal warrants on the window.

Back then the perfumes compared today very very very cheap, seriously around £30 per bottle and they had extract as well of a few again around £40 for 15mls. Their candles cost £15 and they did some lovely high-end leather goods. I still use by black leather cosmetic bag today.

Then in the mid-00s they were bought out by a US company and the prices when up big time and then of course about 2 or 3 back Puig bought them and it was all about the Lady and Lord range. We have some Penhaligon's in my local House of Fraser and I think no way in hell will I pay £175 for a Penhaligon's perfume.

@donna255 >>> you are absolutely right in the mid 2000s Penhaligon's was sold to US privat equity company FOX PAIN with his sub company Cradle Holding.
And from then on things went up sharply with the prices.

A suggestion for you - especially as a Briton:

There are in the Bicester, a town in Oxfordshire, an outlet center called Bicester Village.

And there Penhaligon's has a shop where things are sold, which are apparently taken out of the sales program. (My impression!)

    https://www.bicestervillage.com/en/s...s/penhaligons/

I had phoned there and wanted to order, but there is no shipping to "Overseas" - meaning the European mainland.

For you but to order there, it should not be a problem!

Read back through your own comments in this thread. You fail to recognise humour, correct others although they hadn't said anything other than Penhaligon's has always held Royal Warrants which didn't really need to be corrected and also insult members for making their own observations. When I corrected your correction with humour you resorted to using racial slurs.

I'm done with your ignorance. To the Ignore pile you go.

ZC, the name could pass for any one of my old school, neighborhood pubs! Pennyhooligan’s! That’s classic and doesn’t sound half-bad, in my opinion. Wish I had come up with that name!

Pens sadly now is mostly rubbish. Hammam Bouquet has been heavily reformulated into powdery insect repellent. I cherish my pre 2010 HB and vintage Esprit de Lavande. Though, perhaps I may sample of some of the newer fragrances as some of them appear to have good reviews (though I will probably be disappointed).
