Default Why read Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins

It's a weird novel but an outstandingly written one with perfume and the making of a special perfume at its center.

It's fantastically written and has Big Ideas in it, but is playful too.

    I recommend it highly.

I mean, any book with a Greek god, lots of perfume, immortality and lots of perfume making and perfume problem solving issues...must be good!

And it is darned good if you enjoy big ideas and enjoy fiction, as I do.

I have also read it. Agree, very enjoyable.

    I LOVE TOM ROBBINS!!

Have read most of his books, and have had the privilege of hearing him speak/give readings several times! He’s local here, lives about 30 minutes away from me. <33

Anyway, YES! Jitterbug Perfume was the first of his novels that I read, I think I was 19 or 20, and it is just so perfectly delicious and sensual and poignant and fun! I may need to revisit it soon....

I read that book when I was 21 and enjoyed it immensely- recommended it to friends for years. Thanks for jogging my memory and reminding me to pick it up again.

Funny, I've read Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, Still Life with Woodpecker, Another Roadside Attraction, Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates, and Skinny Legs and All but never Jitterbug Perfume. I should rectify that. I loved Roadside and Skinny Legs. Still Life was great too, but I didn't care for Fierce Invalids. Cowgirls was not bad but not a favorite.

Thanks for the heads up! Just what I need - another good book. Books and perfumes are my personal kryptonite!

Since those two are your favorites, I think you will for sure enjoy Jitterbug Perfume! Also, as you’ve read so many of his books, you may enjoy his “not-an-autobiography” Tibetan Peach Pie.

    Aanyway. Perfume...

Any other great books or novels about perfume??

Loved Jitterbug Perfume! *SIGH* Beautifully weird! I was fortunate enough to read it while I was a BNer and heavily into fragrance, which adds something.

As promised, l just finished reading it again, & thought l'd remind others here to do the same. l'd forgotten just how funny & entertaining it is, as well as brimming with some very interesting ideas & insights, into both perfume & life itself. Highly recommended!
