Default What houses are creating scents like the old days?

I would say Sultan Pasha, Rogue Perfumery are two.

They are using ingredients that were used in the old days and creating similar types of perfumes. Maybe even better, who knows.

I define houses in this “scents like the old days” to be using things like oak moss (greater than 0.1%) and real animalics.

Plus these houses are in a way capturing some of the glory of the old vintages. Chypre Siam is an old style Chypre. Sultan Pasha has many such as Etude en Fougere that are striking for how they capture this glory.

It makes no difference attars vs. perfumes, by the way, at least to me.

Teone Reinthal Natural Perfume. Irises smells VERY similar to Bal A Versailles. Gorgeous stuff.

There's been a lot of talk here about Areej le Dore & Auphorie, although l myself have not tried any of these yet.

Areej and Bortnikoff both have very vintage styles. I would say Bortnikoff is a bit more “conventional” classic style with Areej being a bit more “abstract” both equally great houses. Never tried Auphorie, but interested.

Le Jardin Retrouvé also to some degree

But anyone in Europe now can’t really use the same ingredients as In the old days

Surprisingly excellent (as is the sillage) with all ten fragrances I tried from the house...probably due to their hefty concentration. I can’t say that for all other natural perfume houses I’ve tried.

Dorin is a house whose scents to me are like how scents in the old days used to be created.

I was very impressed with Isabey, and old house that is starting to reissue some of it's scents from the 1920's. It seems to me they are trying hard to recreate the old ones with permitted materials, and I think they are doing a good job. I bought La Route d'Emeraude.

Another question that should be asked is - Are any of these houses (mentioned above) follow a Non-IFRA approach to fragrances?

This one may not be categorized as "Old-Fashioned", but I think a lot of Roja Dove's creation smell vintage inspired. Good artist copy, great artist steal. I bet that's Roja's motto.

I agree with Areej Le Doré, Bortnikoff, Sultan Pasha, Oriza L. Legrand and some from Roja Dove.

    I'd also like to add:

    - Bogue
    - Vero Profumo
    - Papillon Artisan Perfumes (particularly Dryad & Salomé)
    - Anatole Lebreton (especially L'Eau de Merzhin & L'Eau Scandaleuse)
    - Hiram Green
    - Francesca Bianchi (particularly Under My Skin & The Lover's Tale)
    - EO No.1 Parfum from Ensar Oud
    - Au Delà Narcisse by Bruno Fazzolari
    - New Sibet from Slumberhouse
    - Mona di Orio
    - Parfum d'Empire
Currently wearing: Agartha by April Aromatics

+1 on Le Galion. This is pretty much their whole M.O., and they're excellent at it. From what I've tried, Cologne and Sang Bleu are my favorites, but they're all high-quality. As mentioned above, US distribution is pretty limited, but they can be ordered direct from the house. Also, some are available in 10-ml sizes, which I wish every house would offer.
