Still in disbelief over Notre Dame . We have only visited the city once but it was a highlight that has remained in the memory. I feel privileged to have seen it in all it's glory.

Thanks, Jon! Hopefully the drops will "do their thing" so I can finish my exam and get new contact lenses soon.

That seems like a pretty great birthday achievement in itself. Congrats, Ryan!

Azzurro di Capri by Bruno Acampora today. I'm cutting the strings on a brand-new bottle of essence oil, thanks to a certain Irish lass.

((HoP)) house troubles are the worst! I have been on eyedrops for years (20+) for high pressure in my right eye. I am monitored closely and so far, so good. (And I'm a contact lens wearer too.) Best wishes to your eye!

My mom texted me about Notre Dame while we were at the Grand Canyon today. We were there last summer...this is one of my husband's photos. It's so hard to believe.

SotD yesterday was Prada Infusion d'Iris; today I'm still unscented and enjoying our vacation home's quiet backyard after breakfast. Here are a couple of Grand Canyon pictures as well.0_facebook_1555430294246.jpg20190415_084454.jpg20190415_142948.jpg

Annnnd they are sideways. Ugh...no idea how to fix with tapatalk. Sorry!

Happy birthday rynegne and best of luck for your jiu jitsu belt test tonight!

I am so relieved the organ and rosetta windows of Notre Dame were spared. My favourite memory of the cathedral was the first trip my husband and I made to Paris together. We arrived in the morning after a long night flight from California and couldn’t check into the hotel until 3pm, so we dropped our bags and walked to Notre Dame. We sat in a pew and fell asleep listening to the organist practising. It was a beautiful moment in such an awesome place. So glad to hear two of the richest men in France have already pledged 100 million each towards the repairs - hopefully they will get more donations pouring in so it can be restored quickly. Of course it will take years, but less than the 200 it took to build it originally. :-) The news said there was another big fire in the 1860’s for which the Rockefellers funded much of the repairs. A valuable and worthy cause for the 1% of the world to support.

I’m wearing Apoteker Tepe Holy Mountain.

I read in the newspaper that more people visit Notre Dame than the Eiffel Tower. I'm so happy the walls didn't collapse, and look forward to the restoration.

Congrats rynegne on your birthday and your belt stripe!

N.Cal, I don't make pies. I like the fillings and not the crust, so I just make the fillings. Sometimes I put batter or pastry on the top to make a cobbler but generally not.

I'm wearing Mistral Patchouli today as I wait for delivery of my new adjustable bed. There was a sale, and I have been hoping one would help with reflux, which seems worse at night. Fingers crossed I haven't made an expensive mistake--a friend suggested putting a couple of bricks under the headboard legs, which would have been a low-tech solution.

Old growth trees, artisan know-how ... I suspect there is a lot that has been lost since Notre Dame's last major renovation. Not only do we not build 'em like we used to, often we *can't.* It's all so very sad.

I'm sampling Chypre Siam today. Damn. This is outstanding. There's some soapiness (aldehydes?) in the early stages that I wish weren't there, but I'm wonder if they're balancing the castoreum (specifically). It's at the same stage that I can most smell the castoreum lurking. Personally, I wish the soapiness weren't acting as a governor on the castoreum and that the skank were allowed to just run amok. For Jon's sake, though, I'm glad it's kept tame.

It's incredibly well-blended, and I think the benzoin does some pretty interesting things. I need to wear this at the same time as MAAI to decide if I need (hahaha, iknowright?) both of them in my wardrobe.

ETA: Chypre Siam and MAAI are definitely not redundant -- in sort of the same way bright, citric IPAs and dank/funky/hazy New England IPAs aren't redundant. YAY! My wardrobe is a better place with both of these beauties in it. (Once CS is back in stock....)

However, the aspirationally-priced Roja Dove Diaghilev is effectively pointless for me now. Thank goodness.

Good afternoon all! Like many others, was deeply saddened by the fire at Notre Dame yesterday, but am so glad more damage wasn’t done to the building, that there were no casualties, and that many treasures were saved. I spent a little time yesterday browsing through pictures of my last trip to Paris, summer 2017, and being so glad I visited Notre Dame then. For anyone else who is saddened over this event, my good friend, who is an Italian Renaissance art historian, posted the following on her Facebook yesterday:

As we grieve for Notre Dame de Paris, remember Chartres cathedral. Medieval chroniclers say that the 1194 fire almost completely destroyed Chartres, but the relics were miraculously spared and the people rebuilt. Cathedrals are living structures... parts may die off, but they always grow back because they are an extension of their community.

In fragrance-related matters, I am wearing Hanae Mori today. ☺️

I hope it helps! I think an adjustable bed would fabulous to have just on it's own merits, so I can't see imagine it will be a waste of money.

Liz B I am the one who caused the eye pressure problem. I have 7-day-wear, rigid gas permeable lenses. I have pretty much been wearing them in, constantly all these years, which is what caused the pressure. Now, I'll be removing them every night, from now on. I am hoping the drops help. I simply will not go back to wearing coke-bottle lens glasses at my age.

I’m wearing SL Fleurs de Citronnier today. It’s back to warmer temperatures here and I’m nearly ready to give up and turn the AC on. This evening with the windows open, we had a nice breeze on the main floor, but upstairs the bedrooms feel hot. Yuck, not quite ready for summer heat.

    Happy birthday, rynegne!

Like so many of you, I am heartsick over the Notre Dame fire. I’ve never been to Paris, but Notre Dame was definitely on my list to see. Reading about other churches in France that have been burned and/or desecrated in recent months makes me equally heartsick ... it’s so very sad and disrespectful. Somehow, reading that the Notre Dame fire was probably not intentional makes it a tiny bit better.

    hugs to all ...
