Default Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme - prices

Seems to have gone way upward!
Missed out when it was going for like £30 / 100ml.
    Any thoughts

It's a unicorn now. It had more fans than VC&A may have realized (or they didn't care) when they discontinued it.

Where I live, the going rate seems to be (at least with online, not always necessarily discounted nor grey market sources though) around the 30-35 USD/EUR price point, though not the price/cost as much as the increasingly limited availability seem to become more of a problem where I live as well...

They want $141 for it on Amazon. It's nice but sure as heck ain't that nice.

Seems consistent with what's going on in general for such vintages on ebay. I would just avoid the box with the brown leaves on it - I thought that was a bad reformulation.

For some reason that is often the case with Amazon (and people talk about price gouging on ebay LOL). Look at the price for Club VIP Black Leather by Mercedes-Benz, for example.

How about the price on Playboy's VIP Black?

I noticed this too, a couple of months ago, when I was looking to add a bottle to my collection. Average price was around $50 a bottle, which is too much for a blind buy of an old school frag, that I probably won't wear very often.

Wow, I should've saved mine, I sold this in a lot with 10 other Playboys for 20 bucks.

Yeah, VC discontinued all their men’s fragrances and women’s with the exception of First, and their niche line. Wish I knew sooner when you could get a 3.3 bottle for $19.00

It's really hard to tell which one is going to go through the roof and which one collects dust in the bargain bins, especially with the super low end stuff like Playboy scents.

I got lucky and found a few bottles at a wholesaler. I don't usually buy in bulk but in this case I made an exception! Now I'm set for a few years.

Brown leaf box is the good version and the all black box the ''bad'' one.

No, I detested the brown leaf one, but I may not have tried the all black box one, which some claim to be the first reformulation. I have only "deep vintage" now, and that's been the case for several years (I swapped off brown leaf).

Then do not try all black version but the brown leaf is closest to vtg (see also all threads about VC PH). I own both and also prefer brown leaf by far.
Yes, all black is first reformulation (90's version as for Tsar it was the green transparant bottle before the way better green leaf box appeared).

I simply don't agree with you here. Brown leaf I found to be awful and quite different from "deep vintage."

We already had this discussion about 5.5 years ago...……lol
I agree that vintage is best (also owned that one) but brown leaf is generally considered as best (see thread in which most think likewise) besides original (maybe you tried a bad leaf bottle?!):

The bottles I bought are brown leaf. Very good cologne. Van Cleef & Arpels are like Cartier in that they do not cut corners or skimp on ingredients. They both put out top shelf product because their reputation as a world class jeweler is on the line with every fragrance they put out.

What I've seen with some of these "super masculine" vintage scents is that the "quality" wood notes, especially sandalwood, are replaced, sometimes with "amped up" geranium. For those who like geranium, the scent smells great, but I am not one of those people. Without a reference to sample, I can only speak from my experiences with dozens of these types of fragrances, some of which was several years ago (I was able to swap off or sell almost all of the reformulations I had).

Only see brown leaf bottles around now. That are just about accessible price-wise.
Lol I was going to ask about the all black vs brown leaf but my query has been deftly answered
