There does seem to have been a lot of variation with regard to the ingredients lists. What surprises me about your NY Egoiste is the lack of a bar code. But really, it doesn't surprise me that much. I imagine Chanel's packaging is much more consistent these days.

You may be right about the timing of the move of "Eau de Toilette". It's been too long since I looked into it, checking batch codes and whatnot.

Chanel began including a short list of ingredients in 1998 so that could've been plausible.

I have a Chanel box from 1987, 11 years earlier, with listed ingredients.

Cacio and IsoESuperman compared that version of Egoiste to Bois Noir and Egoiste Concentree and agreed with me that Egoiste was better. (Some people like Bois Noir more: Purecaramel, Cook.bot, Oviatt, Hednic).

This made-in-the-USA Egoiste is a closer match to Bois Noir based on today's wearing, than the other vintage Egoiste I have, a simpler, but darker, wood fragrance.

Another strange thing about this bottle is the amount of suspended particles. If I had received a splash like this, I would likely think the floating particles were from skin.
What would your preference be between a splash and spray if both are BNIB?

I did some sampling earlier between my Bois Noir and Egoiste. I have to fall under the Egoiste camp - it's much smoother and elegant. Bois Noir wasn't as stuffy though. I could actually pick out that mandarine note at the opening. I'm not picking up on the lavender note.

There's definitely much more similarity between the two. Egoiste Cologne Concentree emphasized more on the spice notes both early on and at the base.

I noticed the particles in the Egoiste juice. It reminds me of the fragrances from Rouge.

I was referring to the boxes for Egoiste. From my the information I gathered the boxes from late 1989-1997 didn't have listed ingredients.

They're all so good, three variations on a theme. Splashes are fine, but my top recommendation is an Egoiste spray with "Eau de Toilette" printed above Chanel. I don't think any box is needed for additional dating, etc. There is probably the same juice in the early bottles with Eau de Toilette printed below Chanel, but that's harder to date and might be riskier.

Ahhhhh this is so helpful. I remember that I LOVED my first bottle of Egoiste but at some point in the later 90s('97?98?) got a bottle that I didn't like as much(it was SO DIFFERENT). It wasn't platinum so I guess it was either a change in formulation or I got the concentree.

What did it smell like to you? Did it have a stronger prominent spicer accord? It be to describe or show an image of the bottle if possible.
