Default Perfumes you never expected a compliment of

Very rarely do I get asked by coworkers what I'm wearing that day. Even more of a rare event is if more than two people ask.

The first one was a sample I just got and wore it that day. I had a hard time smelling it on me, but apparently it had good projection: Eau de Protection / Rossy de Palma by ELdO.

The second one was one I pulled out from the back recesses of my collection: Chanel No. 5 Edt. It's not my favorite Chanel by any means and I very rarely wear it.

Any surprises from your wardrobe that you've gotten a compliment on?

Yes, but the compliment was from my husband so I'm not sure it counts (Avignon, CdG)! I don't think I've ever gotten a compliment when out and about in the fragrance-averse place where I live.

Hmm. So many people say they hate black licorice, but Reglisse Noire is among my most complimented, and I can only wear it here maybe 4 months out of the year, so it's even more notable. It is light and pretty and unusual and I don't think people think "licorice".

I never expect nor receive compliments so any unexpected compliment that comes my way is nice.

I wear GIT, Robert Graham Fortitude, a very nice tobacco, love Dolce & Gabanna Blue, L'Hommage from Lalique. Good. No comments.

One Christmas evening, walked in wearing Boss Bottled Intense. I could have made purchase signups for the compliments people made.

I kind of wondered if the Aventus hype was for real. First time I walked out with it and ever since, someone says you smell amazing. That I don't comprehend sometimes

Alas, I too now live in a scent-averse place, so no more compliments for me.

As with Zilpha I got a compliment last Christmas when I wore Fendi.
I wanted something warming and spicy but I felt a bit self-conscious as it seemed
to be wearing me. Nevertheless, one of the ladies said I smelled amazing and asked me
what it was. I do feel some of these heavy-hitters definitely get more notice than the
    more subtle ones.

The only compliment I got from my son was when I was wearing Angel (which I rarely do!)
It was the same with Feminite du Bois from a volunteer I work with. She said I smelled
    expensive.

    Among others:

Avon Black Suede Touch- while not necessarily bad or uninspired, basically a soapier and fresher version of Boss Bottled and other not very challenging designer scents, did hardly ever expect feedback as positive on a scent that easily affordable and available

Knize Ten-quite the opposite of the reasons in the case of the aforementioned one, considered this one too expensive within an unlikely elitist appeal category of luxury, too exclusive, too traditional, almost too proto-powerhouse as well as too elaborate, sophisticated and extravagant to garner any favorable reactions

I very rarely get any complements, but the last one was on Santal 33. I was rather shocked because I've only got a decant and don't really see the appeal of the fragrance.

Should have added above. The reason I particularly mentioned Chanel No. 5 is the two ladies who complimented and asked me which perfume were honestly taken aback by it. One called it 'boujie' (did I spell that right?), and the other swore up and down to me it mustn't be because she hates it. Goes to show you that body chemistry plays a major role.

It is really unusual! I wanted to love it and didn't. Glad to hear you got a compliment!

I rarely get compliments but received a few for Oud by Tom Ford. Once I when I wore Flowerbomb to a doctor appointment, the doctor came in the exam room and said it smelled great.

After studiously avoiding Alien for years I finally decided to give it a try (edp) and was taken aback to receive a compliment while out shopping. Lots of times, wearing a perfume I love I think I should be getting compliments but get crickets. Then one I have avoided draws forth praise.
