    Default I hate splash bottles!

They are so annoying to use, and such a waste of juice. I feel like I need to bathe in the juice to get the same effect as a sprayer. Why do companies even hand out samples in splash bottles? Anyone agree? Disagree?

    Agree with you.

I prefer splashes for lighter scents (traditional eau de colognes).

I don't like them, either. I usually decant perfumes a little at a time to small spray bottles

I have to agree with you on this one. After going through a bottle of ADG back in early 2000 my wife bought me a bottle of ADG in a splash bottle. ADG spray was my daily scent, but with the splash bottle I hardly ever used it. I ended up pouring out a half bottle two years ago, about 10 years after I received it.

Gee, I guess I'm alone in my love of splash bottles. Not that sprays don't have their benefits, of course, but there's something so luxurious about splashing an eau onto my hands and then onto skin. Then while my hands are still damp I run them through my hair. It makes me feel like I'm treating myself lavishly.

Spray bottles is my preference too.

On the other hand, if the splash bottle was BNIB and sealed it may be worth considering - especially if it was vintage.

Yes, I agree that they always seem weaker but you can buy like 10 or more disposable pipettes for a dollar and just decant into a sprayer. I have to say the worst is a leaky spray bottle that is slowly evaporating, though.

Personally speaking, not 100% against all splash bottles, provided that their are fairly large sized (ideally 100, 125-150 ml plus, possibly even more) and/or have a fairly small dab/splash opening, to at least partly allow for a slightly more precise application and at least partly compensate some if not most or all of the over-application quantitative losses

But hey, at least one of my Normandies came with a small, silk hanky scarf tucked inside the box.
Great points and alternatively, should anything else fail or at least be moderately efficient/satisfactory in using a splash bottle and especially if the amount if liquid contained is abundant, one can always decant it in smaller sized sprayer bottles/vials.
Even more so if sites and communities like BN have not just easy to follow and also detailed step by step instructions how to do so, but also provide links to and recommendations for affordable and mostly decent quality bottles and other containers precisely suiting this purpose.

This is exactly what I do as well. I only have one splash, and that's Stetson, so when I'm in the mood, I use an atomizer that I have set aside just for it.

I can buy into this. With so many fragrances at my disposal surely I can afford to splash some on with gay abandon. That said I tend to avoid buying splash bottles of vintages. Just get a little paranoid they’ve been tampered with, quite possibly with new juice in old bottles.

I only own two: Guerlain Jicky and Guerlain Sous Le Vent. I just dab them on with the stopper. I agree with cook.bot that not spraying enhances the pleasure of wearing some fragrances, especially older ones. For houses that provide an optional sprayer, such as Serge Lutens or Santa Maria Novella, I usually opt for the sprayer instead of dabbing.

I like splash bottles. You don't necessarily need to put the perfume in your hands in order to apply. Perfumes are not after shaves.
Just turn the bottle on your finger or directly in contact with your skin. Trust me you will get the right amount of perfume without any waist.
There is also another great about splash bottles. You can always open the bottle and smell the perfume. I do this very often. This is the biggest advantage in my opinion.
I have also made an observation. Some perfumes smell somehow different if you apply from a splash bottle. I can't explain why but i have sensed it.
And of course you can always decant to a smaller spray bottle if you need to.
A lot of people say that the quality of the perfume is better preserved in spray bottles. Is sounds absolutely logical but on the other hand i haven't experienced an alteration in the equality of the perfumes inside splash bottles.

On the other hand If you need to be very precise with the application, the spray bottle is better.
I find some sprayers very annoying, others are defect (leaking or don't function proper). When something like that happens i always think: buy a slash bottle next time.

Summa summarum: i like both kind of bottles, each of them its own advantages and disadvantages.

I prefer spray. Using a splash, I agree, kind of wastes the stuff.
However, nothing can beat the feeling of splashing a few dashes of POLO after shave and rubbing it across my neck and chest. It's such a more satisfying experience rather than spraying it on.

    I'd always choose a spray

    1. It avoids juice all over your hands and fingers
    2. It limits exposure to air

I prefer spray- less mess. My first cologne was Polo green (mid-late 80's), a spray. Loved it. Later I got a splash bottle of Drakkar Noir. Really liked the scent but the splash bothered me. I would get frustrated at times with the mess and also not knowing for sure how much was really put on- not enough or too much? A waste for me.

To be frank, I tend to think that companies are mostly just trying to save themselves a few pennies when their offerings do not come with the convenience of a sprayer.

And thank God those samples with the little plastic wand seem to be a thing of the past. How the heck they thought anyone was going to transfer enough juice to their skin with that little plastic stick was always beyond me.

Splash seems wasteful and a method that makes it difficult to get it just right or gain consistent results. However, there's something about Clubman where it just wouldn't be right to apply any other way, so that's one exception. The other comes from the set of Sportsman aftershave/cologne I found in a thrift store - spinning the bakelite top on and off the threaded glass makes a wonderful sound. I don't use the fragrance, but spin cap from time to time.

I prefer spray bottles because spraying is quicker and more convenient.
But on the contrary to most people who have said splash bottles are wasteful, I feel that to me they're much more economic than spray bottles. I have several minis in splash bottles and they look barely used compared to spray bottles with similar wear count. It seems like I usually dab less juice than the sprayer would spray.

And yes, I have also experienced the slight difference in smell and how it develops between splash and spray bottles. It seems like dabbed perfume stays closer to the skin and goes faster into heart and base notes - at least for me. And it seems like different notes get more prominent, but it could be due to the weather, too. Needs more investigating, of course.

I like both. I like sprays more. With splashes, it's the same application on the wrists and neck but I just skip the chest.

    With sprays, I douse myself.

I prefer spray bottles, but when sampling I know I can get a good 3 wears out of a splash. I usually retain the last tiniest bit for a reference sniff later.

I found the larger Hermes splash vial are quite good and I can use the stopper. The Chanel small bottles from the Les Exclusifs line I actually do like. What I do hate is when I have a bad case of the butterfingers and end of getting the juice everywhere else but on my body. Usually the floor, just my fingers, rolls under the dresser, sigh.

I've grown to adore my splash flacons; I decant all my spray bottles into a splash decant\sample. I love splash now but I admittedly used to be anti-splash.

    edit:
I never ever ever ever ever ever put the lips of my flacon directly onto my skin, I don't want contamination to occur. I only use pipette's and\or a sample that I made (splash).
I consider it blasphemy to put the main flacon directly onto your skin, undoubtedly you will contaminate the juice with dead skin, bacteria, oxidation, hair, germs, bio-hazard fluids, lotions, etc..

There has been an occasion or two, or three++....... where I freaking dropped my splash decant I made, and lost a dram of precious juice on the floor,
I once dropped a full 50 mL flacon of su misura perfume, and lost a fraction of the liquid before I scrounged to pick my fumbled bottle off the floor. I shed real tears that day.

but with all these glaring negative peculiarities shining bright, the positives of splash are blindingly unavoidable! Preservation, rationing, proper amounts applied, difficult to finesse, therefore not used as often, inconvenience of the decanting helps stop vexation of the perfume, Conservation, moderation, and maintenance of the fragrance.
