Default 20+ years looking for a fragrance and still haven't found it

    Hi!
Could you please help me with finding perfumes I'm looking for?
There is one fragrance that I could smell a few times over my lifetime on someone passing me on the street, bus or a club and I have no idea what is the name, it was also impractical to ask those guys what is the name.
This is a male fragrance, launched before 1995 and it has strong vetiver and (I think) musk notes.
I've been looking for it for years and I've had a few perfumes that smell kind-of-similar, but they aren't this smell. These fragrances are: Malizia Uomo Vetyver, Body Shop White Musk and Dsquared He Wood Rocky Mountain. They all have something reminding me of that specific fragrance but they aren't it
Do you have any idea what it could be?
Pre 1995, classic, vetiver/musk male fragrance. Please help me!

Apologies for replying under my original post but I couldn't find the "edit" button.
Just wanted to add that another important fragrance similar to what I'm looking for is
L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme by Issey Miyake. I hope this will be useful!

    My best guesses would be...

    Aramis
    Kouros
    Azzaro
    Leonard
    Or Black

All would probably have to be designer brands I would think if you’ve smelled it multiple times, so probably not something too hard to find. Hmmm, I’ll keep thinking

Possibly also Gucci Nobile, One Man Show and (to a much lesser extent, similar in style but post 1995, being first released in 1998) Force Majeure by Bogart, Loewe para Hombre, Tsar by Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron pour Homme EDT/EDP, Davidoff Relax, Roccobarocco Joint and/or Jeans for Men, Spazio Krizia, Cerruti 1881, Eau de Rochas Homme, Eau Sauvage Extreme, Horizon by Guy Laroche, Boss No. 1 and/or Elements, Insense Ultramarine, English Blazer by Parfums Bleu/Yardley, to name only a few.

These ones, both among the discontinued ones and/or the ones still in production strike me as the ones- personally and subjectively speaking- as the likeliest to qualify, as all, with the exception of Bogart's Force Majeure fit the given time interval and all have a reasonable dose of, quite often powerhouse/vintage style, woods, musk and/or vetiver notes about them.

Thank you Cheetah and Ken, I appreciate your help.
In the last 20 years I smelled it no more than 5 times so it might not be a cheapo.
I'll spend probably a few hours in a perfume shop thanks to your hints Many thanks!

Hope it’s one of the ones listed! Try to look for cheap samples online if you need to. Very well might not be a cheapie, but it’s almost gotta be something close to mainstream to have even smelled it that many times. In 10 years I don’t think I’ve ever smelled a niche scent (at least what I recognize) out in public. Good luck!

Why is that? If you've been looking for something for 20 years, make it a priority to ask next time you have the opportunity.

Could possibly be a vintage such as Lanvin for Men. Musky vetiver. But in 1995? Probably not.

    Was a bit curious also.

I know it has none of the notes listed that you said but for some reason I keep thinking that it might be Hugo by Hugo boss.

Go and buy L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme Fraiche. I think you'll find exactly what you're looking for:

Its similar to the original but different enough thanks to the grapefruit and the vetiver/musk/patchouli base roughens up the citric elements which are made even more interesting with a sprinkle of herbs. Insane performance as well. Had it on the splits a while back and people liked it.

Could easily be Dior Eau Sauvage EDT that has captivated you episodically over the decades.

Easy to test and would have been worn by enough of the general population to have caught your attention.

The thing is: scents can come accross very different on you versus on others so even if this forum guided you to the exact correct scent there would be a good chance you wouldn't recognize it as such. May almost be worth spraying someone else with your shortlist and getting them to do a walk-past so you can catch the projection and silage naturally

What country are you based in? I think this might help with the question at hand.
