Thumbs up Re: SOTD: Monday, 6th May, 2019

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

Jon, I loved getting a sense of your woodland walk!

And Quarry, I can't wait to see the end of your project.

Yesterday was yucky weather so I read a library book. Today we are starting our final unit of the year on A Midsummer Night's Dream, so looking forward to that.

I definitely have different scents for different types of days...it's also outfit based. I was wearing the shirt I have on today the first time I wore Jo Malone Tudor Rose & Amber. I was going to wear Vanille d'Iris again today, but I ended up reaching for the JM instead.

    Hello all,

I’m joining Liz B in the house of Jo Malone in Orris & Sandalwood. I just spritzed it on and I’m getting an interesting dirt note, as in rooty earth. It must be the orris.

    Have a good day.

    You folks smell classy today.

Rain, rain and more rain this week. Media are reporting how areas adjoining the Mississippi River were already severely flooded. Makes my whining about not being able to landscape right now pretty petty.

(((Shycat))) Trust me. As a landscape addict, I sense only the highs. When I first laid eyes on that pile of stone, my brain scrambled for a way to acknowledge my euphoria. The brain then brought forth, on its own, the sound of Stevie Wonder singing "Isn't she love-ly, isn't she won-der-ful ..."

I have a sniff list for Chicago with 42 fragrances, six of which are highly anticipated for their notes and/or reviews. Only once has a targeted sniff proven purchase worthy (JM Fresh Mint Leaf). The rest of my wardrobe was just stumbled upon with help from BNers. Why is this? Do you fine-smelling people have a high success rate of anticipating what will speak to you?

For the record, the 'fumes I'm most eager to meet (so therefore probably won't like) are Vilhelm Mango Skin, FM Music for A While, Dior Holy Peony, one of the Lancome Maison (Oranges Bigarades, Iris Dragees), and Hermes Cedre Sambac. I love cedar. I love jasmine. I love Hermes. Christine Nagel formulated a goodly percentage of my wardrobe. So, what could go wrong?

ETA: Oh, right ... sotd. Cologne Sologne, because it's actually starting to feel like warmer weather.
    I don't want to. I don't have to. You can't make me. I'M RETIRED.

Q, we need this rain to stop...there are a ton of flooded corn and soy fields out west of Chicago near me. Not good for the farmers.

Wearing my Ash & Rose fragrance today...Jammy sweet-rose up front more acrid notes of Hydrocarboresine, Tobacco Absolute, Rum Extract, Sichuan Pepper, Birch Tar, Cade and Cashmeran. I loaded this with tobacco and Hydrocarboresine...and birch/cade to tame the sweetness.

We've had rain too but welcome, the beautiful summer storm sort of rain, with lightning and drama but no damage. The ground is happier now and it's a little cooler, but the puddles are transient, not yet time for the little frogs and things.

Good (almost) afternoon! Loved those pics of your walk, JR!

To answer lovely Quarry's question, yes, I think I've reached the point where I can usually guess what will speak to me. With good research, that is- I need more than marketing blurbs to go on. I definitely depend on trusted BNers for this part and yes, so many of my favorites were found right here from recommendations, sample swaps and passes! When paying for samples, it's very useful to have some ability to predict what will get the thumbs up. With in-store sniffing though, I enjoy letting my head bob around like a daisy in the breeze. I make sure to sniff my "must-smells" but I also like to get some time for freestyle sniffing. I'm not necessarily looking to buy anything these days so my approach is purely for the fun of it!

I'm in Un Jardin Apres la Mousson today.
