Default Your most expensive blind buy?

I’m thinking of making a blind buy that’s about $250. (Can’t say what it is due to only being one of them available). It’s also an older fragrance so I have worries of it possibly turning bad as well, given that it was known for having a lot of natural ingredients. I’m torn.

What do you guys think on a blind buy at that price? Child’s play or Crazy talk? What was your most expensive blind buy?

I can’t decide if I want to be talked into it or out of it

Usually you can break almost even on most so blind buying keeps it’s interest in case stuff doesn’t work out.

I agree, its not like if you hate it BOOM you're out $250 bucks, too bad for you. Solid chance somebody out there will buy it from you and you'll get your money back.

But to answer the question, my most expensive blind buy was PdM Herod at $140 and Mancera's Cedrat Boise a few dollars less. LOVE both frags

As expressed in cost per ml, a split of Unum Io Non Ho Mani. Very glad I bought this.
Otherwise a FB of Guerlain L'Heure Bleue EdP (£50) - a nasty shock at first, but have grown to quite enjoy it occasionally

Mostly I don't blind buy. I've become cautious.
Maybe you need to be asking this question in the Vintage Forum, re which notes might 'turn'.

If you can afford the worst case scenario of it having 'turned', and not being able to resell, then fine. Otherwise, think twice.

My most expensive blind purchase was likely a 12ml Amouage attar. Usually, I’ll aim to test first.

For newer releases, it’s a valid point that you’ll likely be able to sell it on if it doesn’t work for you, assuming you have the time or inclination! I’ve justified a few blind purchases this way and they’re still with me

For a vintage though, my threshold for a blind purchase is MUCH lower. Whatever I’m prepared to lose, actually. There are no guarantees and I’m not prepared to pass off a bad bottle to someone else. If it’s been stored well, and everything checks out, it's still wise to factor for the type of scent itself. Yes, older perfumes are more likely to have suffered some degradation, but this can vary enormously even when they’ve been stored carefully. It really depends on the ingredients: citruses degrade fast, for example, while some ingredients actually improve with age, like sandalwood. So, I look at the overall composition too, to help me decide whether or not the gamble is worth it. Perhaps it might help to clarify with the seller what their return policy is?

Ventured into most blind buys so far at relatively low and relatively even/equivalent rates per bottle, therefore most of them were usually so inexpensive that remembering the actual, specific price was not an object, also no priority- thus cannot really tell which was the most expensive among an even lineup of blind bought cheapies

I blind bought Eau Sauvage EDP but I got a good deal on it. I loved the EDT version but was put off by the slight floral smell. I was told that the floral isn't as prominent in the EDP. We shall see when it arrives!

I have never, nor will I ever buy and 'expensive' fragrance without smelling it first. I have only ever blind bought scents under $50 and only a handful at that.

    Bentley Intense for $35'ish (meh)
Clubman Pinaud for $7 (love it)
Early American Old Spice - off ebay for like $35 (adore it)
Ed Hardy Luck and Love for like $18 (meh)
Nautica Voyage for like $18 (love it)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I'm awaiting delivery of two Creeds that I bought blindly: Millésime Impérial and Silver Mountain Water. After all I've read about them here, I can't imagine not loving them...but we'll see!
