That's the second time you've used "penultimate" recenty. It's such a fun word. Please wish her birthday tidings from this old May baby.

I'm sitting under a large tree, waiting for Mr. Q to come home so I can tell him the happiest news he could wish for--literally: A pair of bluebirds has moved into one of his nestboxes right here in our own yard. For decades he had maintained bluebird nestboxes around the county, but these grassland birds weren't attracted to our mixed landscape with invasive shrubs and tall trees. We've been cutting down dead/dying trees afflicted by Dutch elm disease and emerald ash borer insects, and removing buckthorn and honeysuckle. At last we have a nesting pair he can watch. He's probably never going inside the house again.

This song has been in my head since yesterday. Its lyrics feel true to our experiences lately. From the series Galavant, This is as Good as It Gets:

Quarry... Wonderful news, with the Bluebirds being there! I saw a pair passing through last spring but, they generally don't hang around here in town. Today I saw my first Baltimore Oriole in over 40 years! And last week? A pair of Kingfishers out in Juniata county.! Hadn't seen a Kingfisher for about the same amount of time. It makes me believe my mom is still watching out for me, from the other side, with all these great birds I've seen since her passing. She taught me all about birds. She instilled a profound love for them.

Ah, Quarry, I call the second-to-last one the penultimate daughter mostly so I can tease her by calling the last one the ULTIMATE daughter. Since combined we have nine, they also get Borg designations, she would be 8 of 9.

Bluebirds! How wonderful Quarry. Speaking of birds, we seem to be overrun with ravens (or are they crows?) this year in my area of the city. I worry that they eat eggs and otherwise disturb the songbird population. But not my area of expertise.

    15. What a fun age Robin-in-FL. Past that middle school misery. Grown up but NOT.

SOTA/E is Tihota. I'm heading off to the playoff game tonight. Go Dubs!.

    Happy Birthday Cacio!

Quarry, I'm so happy about the bluebirds, mainly because of your husband's tenacity in continuing to hope for their return. Hope is the thing with feathers, literally in this case!

I was rummaging through my decants and samples for stuff to bring to Chicago (don't want any empties, you know) and found Fleur de Chine so I put some on. It's okay, but I don't need any more. It went in the Chicago pile.

Omani Frankincense Special Reserve Essential Oil by Rising Phoenix

This stuff is incredible. I love it - I wore it midday and when I got home from work I reapplied more. I feel like I'm wearing oud: meditative, calming, very comforting. What a fantastic incense oil. One of the best I have encountered.
