YSL himself would probably roll over in his grave. If you read about it, the launch party was extravagant and it was touted as the most expensive male perfume ever made up until that point.

FWIW, the La Collection bottle with the black sides and the later tin can version smell identical, and the later tin can version is nearly identical to the earlier/original tin can version.

This is bad news for me. This is in my all time top 3 list, and it is also my most worn according to SOTD stats - I have actually finished one 75 ml and dented another.

    This is a disaster, lol.

There's no other stuff on the market that's a good fougere and not traditional/"vintage-ish". For example, Paco vtg. is great, but the feel is completely different. Invasion Barbare was the only other one similar, but it suffered a noticeable reformulation for the worse around at least 2-3 years back (if not earlier).

How is the clear glass bottle with the green juice? Looking at it right now...

Also I've seen that Luca Turin and a couple of other reviewers mention that Drakkar Noir shares some similarities, how accurate is that?

    Floris has a few, IMO.

The problem is that I haven't tried the clear glass bottle.

I don't think Drakkar Noir is that similar, but the testers I've tried from could've been off.

Kouros is to YSL what Obsession is to CK, Antaeus is to Chanel, and Fahrenheit is to Dior: challenging and masculine scents that still get talked about enough that their shadow has grown tall over their respective houses; they continue to get a slow steady stream of sales from folks who want to experience the infamy alongside the old customers who keep rebuying it. Once that infamy grows dim enough, only then will they be discontinued, which could be anywhere from another 5 years to another 20 depending on how tastes go. Oud has given many guys a taste for "stinky" fragrances again, so there's hope.

They are slowly killing off all the classic works of art house by house it seems, sad thing is they probably won’t be replaced with anything superior.

Wish I stocked up back in 2010-2011 when the tin can bottles were pretty much under $30 everywhere online.

With limited it's availability I had sort of assumed it was a goner for awhile now... Was fortunate to pick up another original tin can last summer (while actually attempting to track down a new clear bottle) so I should be good for the long haul. I really do enjoy Beau de Jour and Fougère d'Argent but Rive Gauche is the OG which sits upon the throne in my book. What a drag...

While I have not tried the tin can version, I did finally pick up the square bottle last February when YSL was having their usual 15% sale. I guess it was good timing, but now REALLY want to check out the tin can.

But £140/180$USD for the tin can version... (Is what I see on ebay.co.uk)
Nostalgia aside, surely it cannot be that good?

It was $90 6 months ago and $60 a few months before that. A year from now it will be unobtanium.

Thank Heaven I have already stacked some spare bottles. YSL have discontinued in the past great scents (e.g. M7 Fresh) hence I ain't surprised the keep up with traditions..

I've always wanted to do a comparo between can and La Collection versions... I guess now is the time.

Seems everything Tom Ford touched (that isn't a Tom Ford perfume) is doomed to the afterlife and subsequent sainthood in the FragComm. Makes sense considering Oud Wood was made to replace M7, Tom Ford for Men to replace GPH, and Fougère d'Argent to replace Rive Gauche Pour Homme. All those save the Tom Ford for Men are already nosebleed (for 50ml no less) and aren't DC'd.

Tl;dr: You gotta pay big bucks in 2019 to smell like something other than woodyamber ocean pancake syrup sandpaper.
Couldn't have said this better myself.

Are we sure they are discontinuing and this is not just a 'we're going to be out of stock for a while' sort of excuse?
