Default Orris or Irone? Violet leaf or 2,6-Nonadienal?

Which would you buy if you had to pick one, and why?

    a) orris butter or alpha-irone?

    b) violet leaf absolute or trans-2,cis-6-nonadienal?

You're also welcome to propose "Neither, I would substitute X."

buy all of them, they are all useful on their own merits.

If It's okay with the price matter, I will choose naturals. Their complex is the key.

sometimes the perfumer chooses complexity, another time maybe simplicity. there is not 'better'. it mostly depends on the briefing what materials are to be chosen to achieve a matching result.

As PK says, both. The harmony of naturals and synthetics together is what makes great perfume. Also, a lot times it is useful (and cost effective) to boost naturals with their synthetic components, like orris butter and alpha irone (which gives more of a top note). Or adding a totally synthetic AC in the same genre, like trace of iris nitrile, etc.
