Default SOTD: Game of Thrones edition!!

Ok, I know there must be some fellow BNers tuning in to the grand finale this evening. Any plans to coordinate your scent? I for one plan on wearing Encre Noire, a dark scent for a dark show! Seems fitting somehow.

Ha! Perhaps something with a disappointing dry down, since the top notes and the base were composed by errr different noses so to speak?

And @Scarce - perfect choice!! Perhaps some foreshadowing there??

Can anybody recommend a scent that starts off beautiful, interesting, compelling, well made and complex and by the end, collapses into an unrecognizable and confusing mess?

Dragon blood resin?? Thats a thing??? Don't tell me how one would identify that note

I seem to be the only person on the planet who doesn't follow the show or seen one episode, despite all my friends telling me to.

A good example of this is Mercedes Benz Infinite Spicy.

FWIW I hadn't watched it until about a year ago, at which point friends convinced me to catch up for the final season. It takes some time to get into, especially if you aren't into fantasy genre stuff, but you just have to remember: it's an HBO show. It's going to be good.

    Thank you sir.

Unfortunately, I do not own this fragrance so I can't wear it tonight. I'm going to to have to go with the only reasonable choice in this matter. The KING!

It’s a thing. Mainly burned for incense these days, I think, but it seems (like many other resins) to have found its way into a range of preparations. It’s a deep crimson red, which is likely a reason for the name...

I consider it more "Historical fiction" than fantasy. What makes it a fantasy? The Dragons? OK, fine. I personally choose to believe that dragons could have co-existed with humans millennia ago but I'll give it to you. What else though?

Well, I'm clearly not a fantasy genre person - the only thing close to this that I've read/seen is Lord of the Rings. The dragons, whatever Bran is, the wights, Jon Snow's resurrection... what are these things if not fantastical?? Haha, I'm sure that there is some hair-splitting debate about what genre this is. In the end, I don't really care because it's entertaining

Considering switching over to Silver Mountain Water for my SOTE; there was recently some discussion in another thread about the "fantasy/sci-fi mountain" vibe from this one.

Somehow the flinty note in TdH seems appropriate. Hope you enjoyed the finale!

You must not have watched too many finales.

I went with Side Effect, though did not coordinate it with the show. Just something I was craving tonight!

I loved it. They tied it all up perfectly and then put a bow on it. Right down to Jons reunion with Ghost. That had to be one of the better series endings ever! You guys didnt like it?? It was perfect.

It also explained why the last two seasons kind of sucked. They got the ending first. Then it was like, we somehow need to get to this ending in 13 episodes!! So they did what they could to get where they got.

and I stand by my choice of Aventus. The KING! Bran the Broken! First of his name! King of the Andals and the first men! Ruler of the 6 kingdoms and Protector of the Realm!

Hah! I thought it was pretty good. Conceptually it all made sense - I liked Bran as the king who didn't want to be king, and was therefore perfect for it. And Drogon destroying the throne, rather than Jon, was a nice symbolic way of saying that it wasn't Jon who killed Daenerys, but her own thirst for power and the throne.

I do think the pacing was totally off though, and the season should have been twice as long. The scene toward the end where they were deciding on the new king was what, like 20 minutes? Just all dialogue. Some of that time could've been given to Sansa or Arya or Jon, etc. The scene where Jon kills Daenerys was really poorly paced too - I was super confused as to what Jon's intentions were, and all of a sudden she's dead! I mean, I was kinda expecting it, but it seemed very rushed. The big battles this season were cool, but it seems like they sacrificed plot building for empty wow-factor stuff. Granted, that's part of what I like about the show and i was never super invested in it/haven't read the books. But I can see how people are frustrated with it.

    Que scay-je?
