Default Tuscan Leather Intense by Tom Ford

    Now Smell This reports...

Tom Ford has launched Tuscan Leather Intense. The new Private Blend fragrance is a flanker to 2007's Tuscan Leather.

    Dark. Visceral. Intense.

Dark and visceral, Tuscan Leather Intense amplifies the intoxicating primality of Tuscan Leather with raw animal attraction and sexual intensity. Juxtaposed with fresh davana, new atmospheric woods deepen leather’s distinct richness.

Tom Ford Tuscan Leather Intense is available in 50 ($330) and 250 ($840) ml Eau de Parfum.

This I would have been super interested in if I could afford it. At this price it’s just a meh. But thanks for the info.

Kind of like Tom Ford Fucking Fabulous -- more like Tom Ford Trying Too Hard.

Yet, people eat up and buy into that garbage.

Seems like a scent nobody was asking for. Folks already find TL tough to wear.

I guess this is a move to shift the attention back to TL after the Ombré Leather release stole its thunder?

So, the addition of Davana, giving it a rich, rotting fruit, slightly mouldy cheese quality is worth another $100? Got it.

From experience, Intense in perfumery newer means intense. It means different, tweaked, or adjusted. Especially from Tom Ford. I expect this to be quite good, just not worth the price.

To be fair, if it really is as alienating as all that, I'll give TF credit for going boldly in a direction that isn't mass-appealing. But I don't really expect that'll be the case.

Hell, that stuff's not cheap. I'd definitely wear it at least once if they paid me as much as full retail to do so. I'm not gonna play that hard to get and I have no problem taking multiple showers in a day.

Not a fan of the “Intense” naming TF is using lately but the Intense releases so far have been very different from the originals. I think new names would have been a better idea for OWI, TOI and now TLI but I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve tried TLI. I like the other two Intenses so far and they are arguably more challenging than the originals.

Oud Wood Intense could easily have been named something different, amazing fragrance that deserved its own nameplate. Hopefully TLI is similarly different

I've made it sound bad on purpose, but like oud, it's used to accentuate other materials in perfume and is said to react differently on each person's particular skin type. By itself, you do notice a rotten fruit smell, not quite citrus or melon, more like overripe mango. So you can see why it would be used in something like Tuscan Leather, with its leather-raspberry-saffron combo going on.

On me the raspberry has been almost totally removed and the woods pushed to the front with the leather – much drier and didn’t get any sweetness at all. Seems less complex than the original without the raspberry note

Ah, so more of a straightforward woody leather?

That sounds boring, but I guess if you're one of the few folks out there that disliked the raspberry in Tuscan Leather and couldn't get along with Ombré Leather, this TF release is for you.

That actually sounds pretty nice to me. I have a decant of the original, which I like, although if I were designing it, I would've left out the raspberry. Not that I dislike it, just not the direction it would go in my fantasy. I wonder if this will be similar to Gucci Guilty Absolute or Jo Malone Bronze Leather & Wood - those are what I think of when I hear, dry leather and wood with no sweetness. I've never smelled davana but I guess that might keep it from being bone dry.

I’ve been pretty uninspired with the more recent Tom Ford releases, so I’m actually quite excited about the flankers of the original fragrances. I wish they would have used a little more imagination with the naming though. Just adding ‘intense’ cheapens these classics.

I’ve never been a huge fan of Tuscan Leather, because it’s too linear. I think a more complex version with woods and Davana could actually be great! I’m looking forwards to trying Tobacco Oud Intense and I hope Tobacco Vanille gets an update too. Noir de Noir is perfect though!
