Default Re: What's Your Summer Rotation Looking Like?

It's supposed to hit 100 in Sacramento this week, so I'm breaking out all my sparkly fresh citrus/vetivers:

Encre Noire Sport - this one has inexplicably nuclear potency - it's also a bit synthetic, but I love it and it's my "dumb reach" for the summer because it lasts all day, it's fresh and clean, but it's still got a little bit of bit underneath from the cypress and vetiver of the original.

Guerlain Homme L'Eau Boisee - Like stepping into a limeade waterfall. Seriously nice lime note that sparkles in the heat, backed up by wood and green notes. Classy in the Guerlain style.

Terre d'Hermes Eau Intense Vetiver - Swap out grapefruit for the dirty orange from the original TdH, add in a heavy dash of Noir Anthracite style Sichuan pepper, and you've got Eau Intense Vetiver. I could do without the ambrox base, but it's growing on me. Nothing will top TdH in my mind, but it's a nice alternative.

Declaration d'Un Soir - Everything you love about Declaration (but less cumin if that freaks you out), and a beautiful, ghostly rose on top of it. Floral but not cloying even in 100 degree weather.

Creed Royal Oud - Not a summer scent per se, but this will definitely be my option when I want something light, crisp and woody but not necessarily a citrus/vetiver option.

Fahrenheit - How can something called "Fahrenheit" be anything but perfect for hot weather??? Seriously, I love the floral aspects of this in warm weather.

    Que scay-je?

The overall vibe is definitely synthetic, but that's what they were going for, and it doesn't smell harsh or unbalanced.
The synthetic mandarin smells tinny to me, which is what I mean by "thin."

I really like Amara once the mandarin recedes a bit, but that takes about an hour or so to happen.

I get what you're saying. I definitely felt that way until I retrained my brain not to expect a really natural mandarin. Once I did that, it's solid.

I have fresh mandarins almost every day, so it's hard for me to accept such a blatantly unrealistic version.

(This is one reason I love Colonia Pura as much as I do; it nails the "mandarin peel" aroma.)

    This summer I've been wearing:

Aqva Amara - Awesome longevity. I like to wear this to work when it's really hot.
Grey Vetiver - My favorite 'dumb reach' at the moment. A great work scent as well.
Philosykos EDP - Just gotten a second sample. I don't think I'll be buying a full bottle, because unfortunately, it doesn't really last on my skin...
Pulp - The tartness of this scent produces a visceral reaction in me. For a few moments after I've sprayed it, my saliva glands act like I've bitten into a sour apple. Love it, though.

Also stuff like Fahrenheit Parfum, DHI and Zino. If I go easy on the sprayer, most scents do not get cloying on my skin.

You should wear whatever you like, whenever you like. That said, Fahrenheit parfum and DHI in the summer? I couldn't. One needs courage to that. (or to reside in Alaska).

Just kidding, enjoy! But still, I'm shocked

Well, in the end, those denser scents feel more like 'me', which makes it easier to wear them regardless of the weather. And the fact that my skin makes a skin scent of most fragrances helps too. Truth be told, though, I have not worn them in the smouldering heat. That's when the Aqva Amara makes its appearance.

Most if not nearly all of the lineup, with little or no distinction towards the heavier, more powerhouse, leathery, gourmand etc. scents, however if there may be a slight preference for summer/warm weather. scents including but not limited to Horizon by Guy Laroche, Kenzo pour Homme, Zara Norrland, Mugler Cologne, Cerruti 1881 Edition Blanche, Azzaro pour Homme l'Eau and Azzaro pour Homme Summer Edition, Boucheron pour Homme, Pino Silvestre would get even more wearing rotation

    Most often:
    Mugler Cologne
    Guerlain Homme L’eau Boisee

    Likely less often:
    Creed Original Vetiver
    Creed Selection Verte
    Penhaligon’s English Fern
    Bleu de Chanel EDT

And probably a shot of vintage Kouros once or twice. I find one light spray works well in summer but not too often.

I've never tried this one. But it sounds great based on your description and I've noticed several other members have it on their lists in this thread. I haven't bought anything in a while and I think a couple blind buys are in order....

It's not "soapy" is it? I'm trying to avoid the "orange blossom/neroli" white floral soapy sort of citrus scents (I already have a few and I'm covered in that area).

Speckman, you should try to get a hold of Habit Rouge Sport. Wasser made it in, I believe, 2013 and I'm not sure if it's discontinued or not, but it shouldn't be too expensive. It's a really nice fruity jasmine floral. It's not a typical "SPORT" fragrance at all, but it's also very different than HR or any of its flankers while still maintaining a connection to the line. Anyway, it's really nice, and if you like HR and HR L'Eau, you'll probably enjoy Sport.

I don't get this one. Some people give it wonderful reviews, others think it's trash. Personally, I fall into the latter category--it did nothing for me. I didn't get any orange really, and just this vague, generally synthetic sort of smell that was so nondescript I can't even remember it at this point. I blind bought a bottle based on some of the glowing reviews. Anyway, I don't know what it is--skin chemistry, anosmia, over-sensitivity, or batch variations--but whatever the culprit, Amara just didn't work for me. It's a shame too because I think the idea of it is really good, and the bottle is very nice too.

This is another one I may pick up for the summer (along with AdP Pure and Sel Marin), and I've probably put it in my "cart" 10 times just in the past year. But every time I go to buy it, I get paralyzed choosing between the EDP and EDT. I've heard that the EDP is very good, and the majority of people seem to like it more than the EDT, but my concern is that it loses some of that juicy, watery goodness in favor of a more intensely woody component, though I could be making the wrong assumption. I've owned the EDT before. As you can see, I've been contemplating this for a VERY long time. Lol.

Great lists everybody, btw. I've read through all of them...many interesting choices and I think someone can read through this and get some great ideas for summer wear. We're gonna be smelling pretty good this summer!

P.S. One fragrance I noticed that nobody had on their list, which I think should at least appear in this thread somewhere, is Dior Balade Sauvage. It's a really nice aquatic fig-based scent with ozonic and stone/mineralic notes, some peach, marine notes, and a very interesting "solar" accord that actually works and resembles what it says. I really recommend this one, at least to sample, if you're looking for a new summer addition.

YMMV, but I don't think Colonia Pura is soapy or floral.

It opens with a fairly realistic rendering of freshly peeled mandarin that lingers on the skin (almost like the residue you get on your hands when you peel a mandarin with your fingers) along with nicely done salty/ozonic notes.

There's other stuff in the mix there contributing to Pura's sunny/breezy aura, but it's all in a supporting role, giving uplift to that central salty mandarin peel.

It's very refreshing and breezy and contemporary, with a dose of Mediterranean elegance. It's versatile, too. It could be worn on the beach or with a linen suit at a summer wedding.
