The long days are catching up to me and I’m missing home a bit. I’ll be back on Monday. Today’s breakfast was dried pollack hangover soup, and they must dry their pollack with something sweet because the taste was a bit odd, so I opted for the Western buffet and had scrambled eggs and bacon. I’ve smelled perfume in the wild so I know women wear it, but there aren’t dedicated perfume stores that I’ve discovered, it’s all department store stock. The makeup look here is pale skin, pink blush (often around the eyes, too) and red lips. I can’t pull it off as I have too many wrinkles to look like a doll.

SOTD is Pamplemousse Rose from the Chicago Hermes sample. I’ll have to compare this to my AA Pamplemousse when I get home and see which I like best. I only need one Pamplemousse.

Yes, just one day. The school has a seven day rotation of two main dishes on the menu but the other six dishes remain the same. I’m sure there are schools with more in-depth teaching but I wanted an intro into the culture via food. All I knew was kimchi, gochujang sauce, and Costco’s bulgogi.

    Today for me is

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. Afternoon all, & Happy Birthday, dear tdem!

We have a mixture of sunshine & showers here today. l'm wearing Jasmin T by Bruno Acampora, from my newly-acquired bottle of the EDP, bought in the Luckyscent sale. lt's grassier & less animalic than l remember from trying the oil version some years back, but still a very lovely jasmine.

    Happy Birthday tdem1961!

Yesterday was my 4 year Anniversary with my partner (his name is Giancarlo). He's a sweetie and brought me a big fat cheesecake and a huge card with a silly comment and we giggled a lot and spent most of the evening together, at dinner (a new neighborhood Italian joint - the tiramesu TDF!) and then went to the Casino in Hollywood for some tacky fun and he actually won $75 in the penny slots. A good time. And Sunday is his birthday. I wore Habit Rouge last night, one of my scents he really likes on me (he wore Crandon by Akscents Perfume - a local MIA perfumer I've mentioned). And his foot is healing well - although he still can't wear shoes but the pain is less and the therapy is helping. Life is good for us. ((insert big smile here))

Today I'm going to have coffee with friends, then going to the gym, then picking up my dry cleaning, going grocery shopping and then maybe spend some serious pool time.

Currently I am in a tiny sample (that was gifted to me when I placed my last order of Frankincense oil) of:

2017 Canton - Rare Chinese Guangdong Sinensis Oud Oil by Rising Phoenix Perfume

Bitter, tea like, medicinal oud. One of my favorite styles...I might need more of this. But it aint cheap ($550 for 3 grams - ack!)

Mike, last year I bought one of those odd citrus fruits in your photo (Buddha's Hand), and it was surprisingly delicious and very floral.

Today I'm looking forward to the forecasted 3 days of thunderstorms. I do love the occasional rainy weekend, to stay indoors with a pile of books and movies and a backlog of perfume samples.

Today: from Basenoter hero Bavard, the original 1982 Armani for women, and boy oh boy, is it lush. Clouds of oakmoss and green florals, reminiscent in texture of Patou 1000 but darker and more mysterious.

Good ol' bacon and eggs! I think a sign of a successful vacation is missing home. We will miss your travelogue, foxbins! You've been a one-woman entertainment committee this past week.

Happy Anniversary to Mike and Giancarlo! And a slightly early Happy Birthday to Giancarlo!

Driving over to the Chicago area (two weeks late and a dollar short) for a wedding today. Going with the inoffensive to others yet satisfying to me No.5 L'Eau. Wishing everyone a good weekend!

Congratulations on your anniversary, Mike, and happy early birthday to Giancarlo! I so love hearing from friends that life is good. It's certainly too short to spend it unhappy. Hugs to you, Mike -- and I'm glad you're enjoying the Hermes samples!

Happy birthday, tdem! Your N'awlins-inspired celebration sounds wonderful!

Your culinary adventures approach gets 2 big thumbs-up from David, foxbins -- I think he might actually have said, "Nailed it!" The shaved pork hock in vinegar, chile sauce, and garlic had us both drooling. I am so damn happy for you. You're sort of my solo travel hero. And your bidet experimentation had me chortling.

I didn't get around to trying any local beers or wines, rynegne, but I really enjoyed the Michigan weather. Even though it was a productive week and good to see the team I work with, it was long, and I'm super happy to be home.

Quarry, I'd sit next to you on a plane to anywhere. Name your destination.

Your iris are beautiful, PL. I have some of the deep purple Siberian iris, but I need to add others to my garden this fall. I want a crap ton of iris blooming next spring.

My bottle of Love Tuberose was waiting for me when I arrived home yesterday evening, so I wore that yesterday. Then David decided I needed to wear a full spray of And The World Is Yours this morning. So I wore that and smelled fantastic on my walk. It's already so damn hot and humid here. It's been 2 hours, and I'm only now cooling down. I've also done some sampling this morning and discovered that Omnia Opale is a gorgeous seaweed/ocean fragrance that closely resembles Acqua di Sale although the seaweed note is less powerful and it's not as sweet in the dry-down as AdS. I'm going to have to wear them side-by-side to figure out which one I like better. My travel size of Acqua di Sale is almost gone, and I know I want a full bottle of either AdS or Opale. At half the price, Opale is going to be tough to beat.

I'm in an oceanic frame of nose, so I'm going to give my first full wearing to the astonishingly gorgeous Sale Gosse -- the Malle for Kids. (Big wink to Mike!)
