Finally got to try this at Sephora today. They had the edt, edp, and cologne. Perhaps its the season, but was really digging the Cologne.

I cant tell. I only know the black cap version and I love it (also, I cant avoid to sneak it).

Its tragic to think that heroic mans great destiny is to become economic man, that men will be reduced to craven creatures who crawl across the globe competing for money, who spend their nights dreaming up new ways to swindle each other.

I currently have this version, but have used the original from 1978 onwards. The differences are "there" but not enough to make most people dismiss the current versions (i have also sampled the black-cap edition) Anyone smelling the current release for the first time cannot really be criticised as missing a lot. It's still that good, IMO.

I have easily blown through 2 ounces of this stuff in a year. Funny how I have this big collection only to end up wearing Gentleman just about every other day. It just still has the magic, every single time.

BruceB - were you aware there is a more recent version of the 1974 fragrance than the one in your picture? It comes in a black box and says "Givenchy Gentleman Eau de Toilette Originale". I haven't tried it but some here say it's a return to form and better than the previous black cap version. You are set for a while with your two bottles, but that might be a good option for another backup without having to hunt (and pay big $$) for vintage.
