    Default Oud and Sandalwood Accord

    Hi All,

I am hoping for a steer / some advice on an oud / sandalwood accord I am working on.

I have been blending a sandalwood oil with the synthetic oud from Firmenich.
I have added a touch of vetiver to 'dirty it up' a bit.

I have also tried to add some Norlimbanol and Exaltone to see what happens - but I can't really notice their affects - what level of dosage should these be used in to appreciate them? I may have them way too high, or way too low!

All in all, I am finding the effects rather 'tame'. All other ingredients aside, the sandalwood to oud is about 3:2 , but after a very short while, the sandalwood seems to be the only thing showing its character.

I am looking for something woody, regal, musky, and with daring character - I would love to hear your thoughts.

Try some ambrarome to give that dirty animalic barnyardy note. And perhaps a touch of ambrocenide. It is curious that you cannot smell the Norlimbanol, it is such a strong ingredient and apparent through the life of a scent.

You can add the wild side of oud with a civet material.

    Hi Needaname,

Thank you for your thoughts. I really like norlimbanol - maybe I have put too much in, and it is fatiguing me too quickly. I'll try and tone it down a bit, to see what happens.
I have never used Ambrarome or Ambrocenide. Is it likely that these will overpower if I use them in conjunction with the civet pkiler suggested?

pkiler, thank you for the suggestion. I will add some synthetic civet to my next batch of shopping list materials!

This goes well with synthetic oud; its blue cheese and very barnyard

Be careful with Ambrocenide, it's even stronger than norlimbanol. I have it in a blend at 0.01% and it is noticeable (but it is more elegant that Amber Xtreme). You can also add Cashmeran and Kephalis as a combo to boost your oud notes, it's a pretty common technique I've read.

Currently wearing: Eau de Campagne by Sisley

Unwashed human hair and goat smell!
Haha actually sounds really intriguing. Might add the bit of filth I'm looking for!

Thank you for the word of warning!

Would you suggest having one or the other with ambrocenide / norlimbanol - not both?

Thank you for the suggestions - they have been added to the shopping list!
