I love the thought behind this fragrance. “The sun has set, but night has not yet fallen. It’s the suspended hour.... The hour when one finally finds oneself in renewed harmony with the world and the light.” Jacques Guerlain 1912

I first learned of LHB from reading Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander in 1991. The protagonist, Claire, wears LHB.
I was curious about the scent & found a blue paper clad box in an antique store whilst shopping in Upper Montclair, NJ.

Top notes: Bergamot, lemon, coriander, aniseed, tarragon, clary sage, neroli
Heart notes: Bulgarian rose, iris, heliotrope, ylang ylang, orchid, carnation, violet
Base notes: Tonka bean, vanilla, sandalwood, cedar, musk, vetiver & benzoin

L'Heure Bleue in vintage formulation is wonderful. I had the opportunity to smell a parfum extrait sample from the 1960s, that stuff was great. Comparing what is available now and back then, there's a day and night difference in the scent IMO.

Very beautiful pics, RHM & Quarry! RHM is giving me a craving, I predict I'll be in L'HB before the week is out. And I love your close ups, Q.! Mother nature's work is awfully hard to beat (although that cool bed is giving her a run for her money)!

I'm in 1957 for the evening.

Today is my mom's birthday and I'm wearing Narciso Rodriguez For Her EDT for this occasion. My mom turns 60 today and of course we'll have a party in the evening. She didn't want a huge party, just some red wine (her favourite!) and a meal with the closest friends and relatives. I took several days off work so I'll be able to spend more time in my hometown with the family.
    Happy Birthday to your Mom!

Mike, DH is moving around almost like normal. He just has to refrain from doing too much. He'll be walking a 5k on Fathers Day with our daughter. Thanks for asking. Toe-kisses for Giancarlo.

I'm wearing the refreshing Carthusia Aria di Capri -- mimosa, iris, lemon, orange, peach.

I received my Yves Rocher order today. I like their liquid soaps for hand or hair washing. The scented liquid soaps I had been using have been replaced, so I'm trying six new ones, and they all smell great: Lavender & Blackberry (smells just like those 2 notes, berry dominant), Lotus Flower (nondescript and fruity), Peach & Star Anise (realistic edible peach!), Grapefruit Thyme (tempered grapefruit), Olive Petitgrain (soft, unisex green), and the new limited-edition My Green Summer (unisex green tea/evergreen). MGS is also available as an edt; the notes: mint, lemon, lime, bergamot, peppermint, tonka bean.

I haven't been taking pix of most of my projects because some element is awaiting completion or they sit adjacent to something that looks ragged and undone, but I got out and took some shots today to prove I'm not full of hot air. I think of close-up flower shots as a sort of cop-out -- nature really did all the work, but I'll throw in some "pretties" anyway.

The project finished yesterday is a deer-protection frame for the mockorange shrub. I know "flower beds" have been done a zillion times before, but what makes this bedstead special is the portion nearest us in the photo was found just a couple dozen yards from where I'm using it now. The taller headboard and double-loop fencing I bought off Craigslist. Maybe it's all the rain we've gotten, but the mockorange blossoms aren't fragrant so far this year.

    Great pics!

Vol de Nuit is wonderful, its climbing up there as one of my favorites from the Guerlain classics.

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes to my mom! And you were right, Quarry and ExtremeK, she was very happy indeed to see me and actually said it's really a best gift to her - it's probably a thing you can only understand when you have kids of your own who are already grown and moved out.

RHM, I loved your description of L'Heure Bleue! I think I still need some grow-upping to do to be able to value the classic perfumes such as classic Guerlains and Chanels, but I'm slowly slowly training my nose I love that most of them have great names and great stories behind them, it's just my nose is more accustomed to modern fragrances - I'm I child of my own generation after all. But I will learn, too!

Quarry, I loved your garden photos! Your flowers are very beautiful. They are certainly repaying you for all the care you give them with their happy blossoms!

Speaking of eldercare, Mr. Cat's mother comes home today and I'm getting the hell outta dodge--chaos will ensue. I am going up to KY, where the chaos is kept to a dull roar, to see the mad woman who claims to be my mother and watch Game 6 with her. It might kill me and I don't want to die alone. Otherwise, I'm not going to do anything at all up there. I'm taking one pair of yoga pants and three gowns. Gotta get chill. Maybe play some Scrabble.

Q, those garden pictures are lovely! I've seen a garden "bed" before but I never get tired of it. Yours is too cute!

My SOTD is L'Heure Blue because how could it not be after RHM's posting from yesterday?
A bull in a china shop doesn't take damage. She delivers it. It's The Great Shy Purge of 2019.
