Default 'Spicebomb by Jean Paul Gaultier' causes bomb scare in Canada.

Saw this on Reddit this morning, gave me a little chuckle.

I could say something snide here, like Spicebomb being stuck in a toilet was somehow appropriate but I won't.

Toronto police evacuated the area around Bay and Wellington Streets on Tuesday afternoon after a suspicious object was found in a toilet.Officers were called to reports of an “oddly shaped/suspicious object” in the toilet of a public men’s washroom in a Bay Street office complex. Elevators in the building were stopped and the location was secured.
The CBRNE team is on the scene to investigate and the package was detonated as a precaution.
Const. Allyson Douglas-Cooke says the item was a bottle shaped like a grenade stuck in the bottom of a toilet bowl.
She added police could not safely remove the bottle, so decided to detonate it, destroying the toilet in the process.
The investigation is still ongoing and it’s not clear if this was deliberate mischief.
The area has since been deemed safe.

I think it is by Viktor and Rolf and not JPG.

I always thought the bottles looked like thermal detonators in Star Wars.

I gotta put some of this on V&R. I mean, did no one think that a bottle that looks like a hand grenade was going to be a problem at some point?

That's the first thing I thought when I saw their bottle for the first time.
You pack that with you at the airport, prepare in advance to get detained. lol

Who throws bottles of fragrance -- and not a cheap one at that -- into a public toilet? How does that scenario even occur?

I can't really see how this caused alarm. Apart from the shape, it really doesn't look anything like a real grenade unless you're extremely short-sighted.

I suppose it's kind of like people mistaking misplaced dolls for dead bodies etc. Or my personal fave:

Apart from the shape? That's basically what they're saying, right? What else is there apart from the shape? I think everyone knows it doesn't look exactly like a grenade but also the bottle was made to look like a 'bomb'.

Yeah, like, if you want to punk people into thinking there's a grenade in the toilet, there are better, cheaper options out there.

And if this wasn't a prank, WTF? Why did you throw your bottle in the toilet?

Colour, texture, detailing, text. I admit I'm a sucker for detail, but surely any person should be able to see that this wasn't a real thing even from a distance?

Well, at least one person didn't not that it wasn't a grenade, hence the whole debacle

I'm guessing he dropped it in there and then thought nah, I'm not sticking my hand in a toilet, so he let it go?

Might have been a fragrance snob who thought, “This frag is really shit.”

having worked in retail before where i had to go clean the bathrooms at times or at least check and see if they needed cleaning, you wouldnt believe the dumb stuff people put in toilets. its like 50% of people out there think a toilet is just another garbage can.

    This is so funny!
And yeah, I have spent 6 years of my life living in students' dormitory, oh the stuff I have seen thrown into the toilets... Some people are beyond uncaring and unthinking.

A poor attempt in flushing down the evidence?

I wonder if the brand could file a lawsuit against the news channel for incorrectly naming of the brand? That sounds ridiculous to ask but I wonder if it's even possible.

Quote: "Spicebomb for men! By..Jean Paul Gaultier, possibly?"

OH MY GOD!! It's Viktor & Rolf! And...it's not even some obscure indie or "niche" fragrance! XD That one is really popular! XD

Mind you..I've noticed that there seems to be an awful lot of perfumes and fragrances that are carried in the US (that are really common and easy to find there even) that are not necessarily carried in any physical stores here in Canada! And..I've been told that this is because we don't have nearly as big a market for perfume (or men's fragrances) here as they have in the States. Soo..maybe I shouldn't be surprised that some Canadians don't necessarily know what Viktor & Rolf is. Although, to be fair, I guess it could have just as easily been a slip up too. Like..maybe she just accidentally said the wrong name. Or..maybe she said it because Jean Paul Gaultier has funny looking bottles too! But..if she's familiar with the design of JPG bottles I'm still kind of surprised that she wouldn't know enough about perfumes to also know V&R. All this being said..I don't even particularly care for Viktor & Rolf perfumes myself! (Although Flowerbomb Bloom EDT was nice!)
