Default How do you organize your perfumes and samples?

Hubby and I are doing a short 'staycation' at home this week while the kids are at camp/daycare to clean up and organize our stuff. As I posted earlier, I'm taking a hiatus from purchasing for budgetary reason and trying to use up my samples or focus on what I have. I realized my previous organizational system meant I didn't see or pay attention to many samples due to 'out of sight out of mind' as they were placed in drawers or ended up in odd locations.

I pulled out an older makeup display/sorter and found it worked wonders for most bottles. In the lipstick section I was able to fit my smaller Hermessences bottles as well as the smaller Sixteen92 bottles. Samples I want to put into rotation/use I can also display up front so they are at eye level.

    bgYCs6bjTBKRsTTpBnuudw.jpg

I also went to Target and found a craft storage container/tote for most of my samples. The top section I've sorted my samples into empties, but with enough left for a reference sniff, haven't tried yet, and then sorted by 'yes - love' 'meh' 'no thank you'. The 'no thank you' samples I usually give away.

    tC+sALkpTzGl6JHS8bQlog.jpg

For the middle and bottom section I have my odd sized samples or the card stock display that came with it, also for reference.

    2U8LPcB8Q9i7WYOUfNYvbQ.jpgM6VvR+ViRxi1l5CkULSj9g.jpgJAUTNjf+SMuYsuBi2N+1Sg.jpg

The dresser is IKEA Hemnes (I love it!), the plastic display is no longer available on amazon as it's quite old, but just looking up 'plastic makeup display with lipstick holder' usually brings up enough results. Looking for any feedback or seeing what has worked for others. Always looking to improve or up my organizational game.

Thank you for posting and sharing the pictures. In order to reply: the only separation in the storage and/or display of the current fragrance lineup is mainly between shelves and/or special areas for full bottles and the ones for samples.
Other than that, no further special criteria (so far) existing and applied for organizing the personal collection according to year, house, price, note, gender, purchase time, differentiating between current/vintage formulation etc. when keeping and stockpiling the already existing, previously bought, as well as adding newly bought/gifted fragrances.

To answer the thread question, I organize my thousands of bottles according to house and are meticulously stored/displayed on mirrored backed tiered marble shelves. Samples, also which I have endless thousands of, but which I don't care about, are just tossed in a plastic tupperware bin, plastic bag, or ditched in the trash.

    I don’t.

Probably 20-30% of the better looking stuff are out on display cabinets and bookshelves for easy access. Samples are stashed away in boxes.

I have different sized cigar boxes for different kinds of samples and decants. You can go to your local cigar store and get empty cigar boxes for free or for a small fee ($1-$5), a plus is that the boxes themselves smell nice and some of them are quite fancy.
Scent is an exercise in patience and imagination.

My bottles are grouped by house, in alphabetic or numeric order, for ease of finding them, as I have 800+ bottles. I have a couple of plastic organizers for decants and a small box for samples. I am actively divesting myself of the decants and samples as I find them cluttery and I rarely wear them.

My perfumes live in a Malm chest of drawers in our spare room (coldest one in the house), and samples live in little flip-top ammo boxes or in boxes if carded. The arrangement suits me very well; I don't feel the need to display my fragrances (our home is on the uncluttered end of the spectrum, no display cabinets or open bookshelves - we HATE dusting) and I can access them very easily that way.

Bottles and boxes I'm good about keeping tucked away in a chest of drawers. Samples -- not so much.

This is the terrifying view behind my laptop.

"Organized." Kitty, you invoked one of my trigger words. I always love to hear about how others organize. Best of all, I love BNers who share pix of how they organize.

New or special samples sit in a floral frog (antique bouquet stem holder).

Samples kept for reference are organized in a tray through which I wove a web with ribbon.

Decants are stored in red and gray plastic ammunition boxes (seen in bottom portion of photo above).

Bottles are displayed in a cabinet in a windowless powder room.

l love seeing people's sample stashes, almost more than looking at bottle displays! Thanks for posting these, folks.

l have a couple of those cosmetics organisers for new samples or ones l'm keeping in rotation to use up. l also have a set of cigar boxes for samples l'm keeping for a different season.

l enjoy being organised & pretty much always know exactly where to find the sample l'm looking for. And because each one is listed under "samples" in my basenotes wardrobe, l never forget that l have something.

For the bottles, I have a four tier shelf in a reach-in type of closet. It's dark in there and it's optimum quality is a safe storage location (cool, dark) - ease of access is definitely not its defining quality. Top shelf are the Nauticas (I like Nautica) and a few others, second shelf is the year-round standards, third is seasonal and fourth is overflow from the two above. Due to the configuration and, well, density, the only practical arrangement is by height. There's a separate tray to the right that has all the "nice" seasonal stuff.

Sometimes I put bottles on the dresser for display, but only those with opaque containers.

Most samples are in one of those plastic cosmetic/office supply organizer type things, but it's smoked plastic, not clear. Depending on size, you can fit four or five uncarded samples in a slot that I guess is intended for a lipstick. I have a separate box for my Swiss Arabian samples that a pleasant and very helpful distributor assembled for me (after I bought $150 of stuff from him).

I don't know what you do with yours, but my sixty carded samples of Exceptional (because I am) are nested, banded and sitting in a box probably with the winter fragrances.

I am fairly disorganized - shamefully so. Here by the p.c. on a separate table there are full bottles in line next to wear, their boxes (if applicable) on the floor, current samples and decants I am wearing. In the kitchen on the table, (for which we never use for dining), are boxes of samples and decants sitting right up against boxes of art supplies. No logic there. Upstairs in the back bedroom, also known as "The Perfume Room" are the black shelves my husband built for me, lined with "summer" frags. The majority of my bottle collection is also stored in this room, all in banker's boxes labeled Warm or Cool, for the seasons. In the master BR, on a chest of drawers, are a smattering of bottles I may end up selling. Those, are my "occasional" fragrances / bottles I am not in love with. It would take too many photos (and then I'd have to dust and remove other clutter) to snap and show here.

I love seeing all these - thank you all for sharing! We're in a rental so I'm limited in where and how I can store, plus now that my toddler is at table height, everything needs to be out of reach of her prying hands. The room is dark during the day because I keep my black out curtain up year round, so I turned on the light especially for the pictures

For samples that I have a lot of in particular houses I tend to group them together in boxes with the standing upright. For others that I have just a few I have them in a larger cardboard containers.

    Examples:
A box of vintage samples/small decants

A box of samples/small decants of Chanel

I don't but have considered to put them in some sort of alphabetical order, then I remind myself that I'm fairly confident that I vaguely know where most of them are (not that hard, only 130 bottles...in theory at least) and that I'd rather not bother.

It's usually fine but as they're all crammed into a fairly tall cupboard, the odd tiny 30ml or less bottle can seemingly disappear. They all show up again eventually though.

I organize samples by house, in manila envelopes, in a shoe box, in the closet.

The bottles are in a jelly cabinet.

I keep my samples in a drawer under the sink in the master bedroom. My actual bottle collection, I keep in a dresser drawer.
I'm planning on moving them somewhere else because they are too hard to locate in my dresser. The drawers don't pull all the way out. But I like to keep them put away and out of site.

By the looks of it, not well enough!!
Dedicated shelf for fb's , no particular order, just what fits the jigsaw. Probably less used ones further aback.

That's not a bad idea - post your Exceptional Army. I'd have to round them up. I have the Exceptional Army regulars, all organized in a fixed location, then there's the small attack units and those on special assignment here and there throughout the house. There are stories of an entire lost regiment somewhere too!

I recently dumped a couple into a spray bottle and finally gave it a try. It's definitely wearable - chores around the house and minor errands on a lazy summer Sunday or something. Nothing remarkable but nothing worthy of harsh criticism either. I could see buying a bottle of it but I'm up to my eyeballs in Nautica and Ed Hardy stuff already, so there wouldn't be much point in doing so. Plus there's that lifetime supply of samples thing...

My entire collection lives in an ugly file cabinet in a dark closet. The opposite of glamorous but it keeps everything dark and cool. The samples live on top of the cabinet (pic #1) and then I have the four drawers of the cabinet that look basically like pic #2. Fragrances in drawers are mainly organized by house. Bottom drawer is for backups, flacons and vintages.
