    Default Tom Ford Oud Wood

Hi! Do you think Oud Wood is a good winter fragrance for an 18/19 years old? If this one isn’t, what Tom Ford fragrance is?

The main reason I think not, is because of the price. It is quite an expensive fragrance for a teenager. Also, oud is not normally a favourite among teenage girls. If that is who you want to impress, than Oud Wood is normally not the right fragrance. But sure, if you can afford it and you love it, I don’t see why you can’t rock it. In formal circumstances it is perfect.

I would suggest Tom Ford Noir Extreme for a teenager. It is sweet, popular, and very good in cold weather.

Sure. Do you like it? It’s one of his classics and a crowd favorite I think. Personally I don’t have it, but it’s nice. My favorite of his is Noir de Noir but it might make more of a statement than you want to make. Dark rose/patchouli/vanilla/earthy notes and it does have “Oud” in it. I put parentheses because his fragrances don’t contain real Oud, but synthetic.

I agree with this. Oud Wood might be a bit mature, but if you like it, definitely go for it! It is a fine winter scent.

It's lovely stuff but the performance of the more recent bottles is shocking. I returned mine.

It's not a favourite of mine but I wore it last night as I'm trying to persist and see what it's about before finally discarding it on the 'overrated' pile. Last night was the best experience I had wearing it, it's definitely 'good' when you just ignore it and it settles in to this sweet/light woodsy thing, rather than focusing on the rubber note.

If you want an Oud scent, Versace Oud is about 60-70% of the way to Tom Ford's Oud Wood. However, for your age, I would recommend Dunhill Icon Absolute as the 'best' Oud you could buy considering your age and all the likely connotations that brings, which has been touched upon earlier in the thread. It smells really good. Another good one is Ralph Lauren Polo Supreme Oud. I'd steer clear of Oud Wood, purely because it is a bit more mature than 19, even going in to your early 20s, and for the money you can get something youre likely to prefer (and have more money at the end of it).

If you can afford it sure. Great scent but with poor performance and overpriced.

Although, having just read that you're looking for a Tom Ford specifically, I'd start with the signature line - Noir Extreme is a good shout if you like quite sweet, feminine scents, but again I think it comes across as 30+ rather than a youthful scent. Tom Ford for Men is one I enjoy, but it leans a bit mature as well - nice though, and worth checking out, as it's not just a winter scent, but all year round. So too Grey Vetiver, and Ombre Leather.

However, none of those are really 'good' winter scents for someone your age - if we're to take it that you're a fairly 'typical' 19 year old, whatever that means. Trying to find something more appealing to your peers and yourself isn't the easiest thing, as Tom Ford is, by his nature, obsessed with the past. His fragrances all imitate scents from the 70s and 80s, so not too many are particularly youthful.

Tobacco Vanille would probably be the best starting point. It's one of the cheapest you can buy due to the saturation in the market - if you look grey market, or even second hand, you can get a really good deal on it. But it's probably the most youthful of the Private Blends that works well in winter.

The other ones to try out - and you absolutely need to sample, dont go out and buy a full bottle - would be Tuscan Leather, and Tobacco Oud/or TO Intense. Maybe Oud Minerale as well, that's the most youthful, but not strictly a winter scent. In all honesty though, unless you're in to the retro look/have the personality, I'd steer clear of Tom Ford. I know the name and the branding is appealing, but in terms of their actual scents, they might fail to live up to expectations.

I really like the way the oud accord smells creamy in this one, anyone inhaled anything else that uses it in a similar way? No barnyard!

Armani Oud Royal is the pinnacle of designer, non-barnyard Oud in my opinion.

So far, considering and recommending this as one of the best winter/colder weather fragrance for an 18-19 year old. Yet also by as not the only appropriate choice effortlessly suiting by far the required gender/age group/weather type.

Also taking the liberty to add and/or second Tom Ford Man and Man Extreme, Noir de Noir, Tobacco Vanille, to lesser extents even the fascinatingly androgynous Black Orchid along with the soapy clean, inoffensively fresh Grey Vetiver EDP to a possible (re) testing list of TF fragrances worth (re) considering.

It is the rosewood. One of my favorite notes.

If you like it, i don't see why not.
If it's a girl you want to impress however, i would steer away from it. Girls at your age tend to like sweet scents.

I'm going to take a different approach to your question and ask you a question:

Who do you want to smell good FOR? Don't worry - there's no wrong answer. It's just food for thought.

If you want to smell good for yourself, buy whatever you think smells good.

If you want to smell good for someone else, think about what they're likely to enjoy on a guy your age and look for something along those lines that you enjoy too.

For example: I'm in my 40s. If I just want to smell good for myself, I wear something like Terre d'Hermes Parfum. It's fantastic! If I want to smell good for a date, or any flirty situation, I'll wear something like 1725. It's fantastic too! I love 'em both, but TdH isn't something I'd wear if I want to smell good for a woman. Different scents suit different situations.

If I were you, I'd probably pass on Oud Wood. It's good, but you can do better for less money, especially if part of your motivation is to smell good for dating.

18 or 19 years old it really depends on who you are. If I met you for about a good three mins I would be able to tell.
Oud wood is a relatively challenging wear for a young person I would think. But it sounds to me (I assume) youre not the typical teen who would be satisfied just wearing Fierce or Axe.
    (I like Fierce though).

If you want a good solid woody scent for the cold, and are around that 18/19 age bracket, I'd use something a teeny bit sweeter like Chanel Allure Homme (1999).
oh look, I have a signature
